edit: Ya gotta read this right wing story from The Straits Times, the oldest English-language daily newspaper from Singapore. Its full of commie-pinko bashing.

1. Well, guess we can't call it Sushi anymore.
Guess it'll be "Stars and Stripes" bars now for your raw fish stuff thingy. At least we can keep calling it a California Roll.

2. pinkos
The japanese hostages were accused of being 'leftists' among other things. Leftist? Aren't they all leftist over there? After all, their ruling party is the LDP - Liberal Democratic Party.

3. Er, no...
The Japanese Liberal Democratic Party is more like the PRI in Mexico... been in power very nearly uninterruptedly since the postwar Occupation period--very much the architect of Japan inc., seriously corrupt, in bed with the fat cats, etc., etc.

It's net especially liberal, and not especially democratic, either. It's kind of like... well... a collection of feuding fiefdoms. Japanese politics are very weird.
