Oath Keepers pledges to prevent dictatorship in United States
Group asks police and military to lay down arms in response to orders deemed unlawful

Depending on your perspective, the Oath Keepers are either strident defenders of liberty or dangerous peddlers of paranoia.

In the age of town halls, talk radio and tea parties, middle ground of opinion is hard to find.

Launched in March by Las Vegan Stewart Rhodes, Oath Keepers bills itself as a nonpartisan group of current and retired law enforcement and military personnel who vow to fulfill their oaths to the Constitution.

More specifically, the group's members, which number in the thousands, pledge to disobey orders they deem unlawful, including directives to disarm the American people and to blockade American cities. By refusing the latter order, the Oath Keepers hope to prevent cities from becoming "giant concentration camps," a scenario the 44-year-old Rhodes says he can envision happening in the coming years.

It's a Cold War-era nightmare vision with a major twist: The occupying forces in this imagined future are American, not Soviet.

"The whole point of Oath Keepers is to stop a dictatorship from ever happening here," Rhodes, a former Army paratrooper and Yale-trained lawyer, said in an interview with the Review-Journal. "My focus is on the guys with the guns, because they can't do it without them.

"We say if the American people decide it's time for a revolution, we'll fight with you."

2. mmh. Economic meltdown, mobs, no-good military types, arms, anger, racism and stupidity.

America, quite a powederkeg...

Let's hope for the best.

After all, they talked the same kind of shit in the 90's and there was no widespread insurection. Remember how Clinton signed away the sovereignity of the US to the UN? Remember the UN troops in Canada and China?

3. So, where were they when the bushes were grabbing power, making people take loyalty oaths
Edited on Sun Oct-18-09 06:33 AM by fasttense
to the bushes, using the legal system for political prosecutions, using the Supremes to select our president?

It didn't seem to bother them that mercenaries were hired to replace the American military (I doubt mercenaries will go along with their plans).

It didn't seem to bother them when the bushes declared emergency powers during a crisis belonged to the executive.

It didn't seem to bother them when the bush declared he could imprison you indefinitely if he declared you were a terrorist.

It didn't seem to bother them when the bushes spied on Americans.

It seems nothing bothers them so much as a black, Democratic, president.

5. Why didn't these MFers form eight years ago if they were interested in oaths to the Constitution
and stopping a dictatorship. Their dichotomous actions scream out their disingenuous perverted hypocrisy. :P

8. These are the same people who have been gleefully supporting the illegal "war on drugs"

They're RW extremists. Racist terrorists and they're not fooling me one bit! They don't give a damn about the Constitution. They're just pissed off because they lost the election to a black man.

THEY NEED TO BE FIRED!

13. These guys are merely consumers of propaganda
Everyday these men wake up and gorge themselves on the heaping piles of steaming bullshit served up by dozens of right-wing media personalities including Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck. They respond to the clarion call of hate like Pavlov's dog's to a bell. These men are nothing new in the human family! They are the same folks that have been the wind beneath the wings of despots and tyrants since time began.

Another group of "patriots" last century were proud of their oaths too. Theirs was "Treu, Tapfer, Gehorsam."

14. I know several Oathkeepers
They are from both sides of the political spectrum.Far right and far left.
They seem to be taking the attitude of working together to defeat a common enemy.

I guess we will know when the shit hits the fan.
