Sarah Palin: America's Evita Perón by Frank Schaeffer
http://frank-schaeffer.blogspot.com/2009/11/sarah-palin-americas-evita-peron.html

Here's a woman whose husband associated closely with the Alaska secessionist party, which itself associates with lunatic fringe secessionist groups and far right militias nationwide. Here's a woman who stabs John McCain in the back, the man who brought this small town mayor and one time Alaska Governor to national prominence. Here's a woman who quit the job of governor to become a full-time rabblerouser in the style of a Munich 1930s of beer hall putsch.

And what's her backing? The Rupert Murdoch/Reconstructionist Empire, the marriage of hard right capitalism with harder right Old Testament would-be theocracy.

snip

Christian Reconstructionism as a movement is something philosophically like Bible-inspired totalitarianism/theocratic neofascism. Karen Armstrong sees this potential for fascism in Christian Reconstructionism, as does Max Blumeanthal. The system of dominion envisaged by Christian Reconstructionist theologians R. J. Rushdoony and Gary North is totalitarian. Many others put my late father in the same camp, though I don't.

So now we have it: a far right operative who -- with the help of a ghost writer who believes that Roosevelt was a secret communist and that gays will burn in Hell -- trashes the Republican Party for her own personality cult agenda, was "blessed" by a preacher before she ran for governor who cast out "witches", who claims in her book the "God's hand" has been on her "every step in the way", and that she's going to "fulfill" destiny. She's funded directly via the huge advance by Murdoch and is coached by the Olasky/reconstructonist wing of the hard right.

3. No she is a crazy attention hog backed by some of the same who backed W.
her job is spread lies and paranoia to rouse the right wing rabble and she does a very good job at this. Not likely to win a legit election but ready and able to do great damage before she stops.

6. Rouse them, keep them together, and herd them into a trap for bait-&-switch 2012.

2. There's a basic difference: Evita, despite her eccentricities, tried to HELP the poor
"Palita", by contrast, doesn't give a damn about them.

That, and "Don't Cry For Me, My Wasilla", really doesn't work as a song.

5. Thanks for posting.
I just signed up to follow Frank's blog. I'm glad he's addressing this issue, as I believe it's one of the biggest problems facing us today. These people will not be happy until they turn this country into a Theocracy. If that ever happens, I'll be gone asap.

7. Frank got hammered pretty hard here the other day.
The posters were saying that he was contributing to the violent anti-Obama mood by mentioning it so much, and thereby somehow propagating the idea. I don't quite see it that way.

I'm still seeing the guy as someone who is trying to warn people about the freaks that he and his dad helped unleash on this nation, and by doing so perhaps redeem himself somewhat.

He comes off to me as someone who is trying to set the record straight. After figuring out what's really going on.

I'm sure he's not well liked at all in realm in which he once belonged. And I hope everyone goes to the link.

8. The Beer Hall Putsch was in 1923.
And I wouldn't call the Republican Party of William F. Buckley, Jr. "cautious and respectable." In his day he was a nasty hardliner on race and immigration, besides a free-market fundamentalist.
