The terrorist attacks that never happened...

Lately there has been a lot of right-wing talking heads telling us how Bush kept us safe. The likes of Cheney and Giuliani have been on several shows lately claiming there were no domestic terrorist attacks under Bush...

Thought I'd throw this list out there, if anyone has anything to add that'd be helpful.

United States, September 11 2001: Attacks kill 2,997 , and many more later from exposure to toxic dust in a series of hijacked airliner crashes into two U.S. landmarks: the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, and The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A fourth plane, originally intended to hit the United States Capitol Building, crashes in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, after an apparent revolt against the hijackers by the plane's passengers.

United States 2001: Anthrax attacks on the offices the United States Congress and New York State Government offices, and on employees of television networks and tabloids.

United States, December 12: Jewish Defense League plot by Chairman Irv Rubin and follower Earl Krugel to blow up the King Fahd Mosque in Culver City, California, and the office of Lebanese-American Rep. Darrell Issa, foiled

***United States December 21, 2001: On December 21, 2001, Richard Reid attempted to board a flight from Paris to Miami, but his boarding was delayed because his disheveled physical appearance was suspicious to screeners. He also did not answer all of their questions, and had not checked any luggage for the transatlantic flight. Additional screening resulted in his being re-issued a ticket for a flight on the following day.***

***United States December 22, 2001: He returned to the airport on December 22, 2001 and boarded American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami, wearing his special shoes packed with plastic explosives in the hollowed-out bottoms. Not found until he tried to ignite his shoes and the smell gave him away.***

United States, May 2002: Luke Helder injures 6 by placing pipebombs in mailboxes in the Midwest. Motivation to protest government control over daily lives and the illegality of marijuana and promotion of astral projection (I know it isn't a Muslim act of terror, but if you're going to use the term...)

United States, July 4 2002: An Egyptian gunman opens fire at an El Al ticket counter in Los Angeles International Airport, killing two Israelis before being killed himself.

United States, October 2002: John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo conduct the Beltway Sniper Attacks, killing ten people in various locations throughout the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area from October 2 until they are arrested on October 24. (I'm not sure I would consider this an act of terrorism, but it sure fits the def. from the right-wingers)

United States, March 3, 2006: Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, an Iranian-born graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, drives an SUV onto a crowded part of campus, injuring nine.

USA July 28th, 2006: A woman was dead and five others were hospitalized this afternoon after a shooting at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle building in downtown Seattle by a man who declared he was "angry with Israel."

United States August 30th, 2006: An Afghani Muslim hit 19 pedestrians, killing one, with his SUV in the San Francisco Bay area.

United States December 22nd 2006: Federal Agents disrupt Derrick Shareef’s attack on an Illinois shopping mall planned for December 22nd. His intent was to commit “violent jihad” just before Christmas. (Thwarted... but wasn't the underpants bomber - well at least a failure.)

USA February 12th, 2007: A teenage gunman kills five bystanders and wounds four more in a popular shopping center before being shot dead by police in the Trolley Square shooting in Salt Lake City, Utah.

USA July 27th, 2008 Knoxville, Tennessee: Knoxville Unitarian Universalist church shooting, Jim David Adkisson kills 2 people and injures 7 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

I omitted some, there are failed/thwarted attacks out there as well, same as the Christmas underware bomber... I'm sure if they happened during the current administration the con's panties would be in a bunch...

The targeting of women's clinics is most certainly terrorism that has been going on for decades.

but over a 15 year period (OK - I know Bush wasn't in office for 15 years, but it felt like it) there were 150+ attacks... it'd consume the whole list.

If you could get a solid number for those that occurred just during the Bush misadministration, that would make a powerful and appropriate entry, don't you think?

was put in the Murder of Dr. Tiller, and add some notes on the 15 year number, but it doesn't fit the time line, he was killed in May 2009 (they also attempted to kill him in 1993), so couldn't really attribute that one to happening under Bush. If you give me an entry that fits though, I'll be glad to add it, definately.
