Edited on Mon Feb-08-10 03:40 PM by JohnWxy
You know Mr. President, we tried that before and their input amounted to: "SINGLE PAYER IS OFF THE TABLE!!!", and: "NO!!!!"

Last time their input was to tell the tweetey birds that Obama was going to "kill your grandma" and other assorted fantasies that would make Bram Stoker seem pedestrian. So maybe they will come up with something new (check with Rep Ryan (heh, heh).

But, Mr. President, if you are giving the Corporate Lobbyist party another shot at killing HCR, why not give the people who support single payer a second hearing? Or are they blood-sucking vampires? (it would be a nice surprise to give the Corporate Lobbyist party...)

(http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/05222009/watch.html">Bill Moyers report on single payer approach)

But this time Obama says he's going to have it TELEVISED! NOW THIS SHOULD BE GOOD!

Obama, GOP set for televised health showdown - NYT

WASHINGTON - President Obama said Sunday that he would convene a half-day bipartisan health care session at the White House to be televised live this month, a high-profile gambit that will allow Americans to watch as Democrats and Republicans try to break their political impasse.

Mr. Obama made the announcement in an interview on CBS during the Super Bowl pre-game show, capitalizing on a vast television audience. He set out a plan that would put Republicans on the spot to offer their own ideas on health care and show whether both sides are willing to work together.

“I want to come back and have a large meeting, Republicans and Democrats, to go through systematically all the best ideas that are out there and move it forward,” Mr. Obama said in the interview from the White House Library.

Mr. Obama challenged Republicans to attend the meeting with their plans for lowering the cost of health insurance and expanding coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans. Republican leaders said they welcomed the opportunity and called on Democrats to start the debate from scratch, which the president said he would not do.

1. The problem seems to be that single payer advocates cant beat the insurers
when it comes to funneling vast sums of money into Democratic campaign war chests.

Our party seems to be operating under the false impression that to beat the party of the corporations (GOP) they have to become the alternative party of the corporations.

3. Find Some Republicans Who Advocate Single Payer
It may be the only way to get a hearing.

4. Outstanding idea! I don't believe he has as yet considered a bipartisan approach
and from what I can see, the republicans seem to be decent reasonable people who would very much like to work with President Obama to find solutions to our problems. ( thought I'd try this without the::sarcasm: thingy, but chickened out)

5. I've had enough of these meetings with the right
They have no interest in HCR except to block it. Time has run out for meetings. Kill the filibuster and let's get it done with a public option or at least a preexisting condition's clause.

11. Without a public option there's no point in passing either the House or Senate bill
they're just bail outs for the insurance companies and allow out of pocket expenses that are so high that people with preexisting conditions (as well as the rest of us) still won't be able to get care, but we'll all get to pay for "coverage".

14. exactly. And the result is, nothing accomplished. But NOW, if Republicans say let's "start over" ..
(which is just a tactic to see that nothing get's done)..I say, the proper response should be: "Start over? Okay then that means we consider single fucking payer!"

6. Obama will never entertain discussion of Single Payer. ESPECIALLY in any kind of
public venue. If any of you happened to watch Bill Moyers last Friday on PBS, it was painfully clear that the Obama administration will pull out all the stops to suppress ANY discussion of the topic. That cat will never be let out of the bag because it would go viral in the public.

10. I believe HCAN members have been arrested several times now
for the crime of attempting their voices on Single Payer to be heard. Not sure they carry much weight with this administration.

13. You can't outshout the cacophonous carnival madhouse of the RW Lie Machine/M$M fusion that is our
National Mind.

I am not advocating that you not try, in case I am wrong.

But I am not, and I have been shouting into the lunatic winds for a decade now myself, but they write the False Reality that makes up people's minds using the latest techniques in psychology, advertising, PR, and manipulation.

We are Weimar and can only hope what our Kinder and Gentler Nazis have planned for us isn't going to be as horrific in it's NEW and REBRANDED way as the originals.

But given the state of the economy, I think it will be much more like the originals than even the Bushpublican Kinder and Gentler Nazi Leaders imagine.

16. You are of course, correct re: "RW Lie Machine/M$M fusion" and the "lunatic winds"
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 05:18 PM by JohnWxy
and I admire you for battling the "lunatic winds" for a decade. I just hope you don't stop.

ONe think I try to do is point it out when the M$M uses the "techniques in psychology, advertising, PR, and manipulation" to 'sell' the Corporate Lobbyist Party's "alternate reality".

You realize, of course, that the internet and places like this site are "problems" for the 'RW Lie Machine/M$M fusion' you spoke of. DU and other sites are tools to fight disinformation.

But we have to keep the pressure up (and encourage each other). ... hope you hang in there!

15. I don't disagree with Mr. Paine's assessment (so well put too) however, I still say
"Never say die!" email www.change.gov and www.whitehouse.gov/contact

IF you do NOT make your voice heard, it is just that much more likely that the Corporate Lobbyist Party will win.

And keep posting your opinions here too. This site get's noticed.
