AMMAN: The apparent fall from Washington’s grace of Ahmed Chalabi, convicted in absentia by a court here for fraud and embezzling millions of dollars, has clearly triggered satisfaction in Jordan.

“Ahmed Chalabi is not just wanted in Jordan. He is involved in financial irregularities in Lebanon. He has caused the collapse of two banks in Lebanon. He is involved in financial irregularities in Switzerland, where another institution, financial institution, collapsed,” Moasher said.
“We weren’t able to bring him through Interpol. When he was in London he wasn’t protected legally but we couldn’t reach them and I think that in a matter of days he will leave Iraq for London,” said veteran economist Fahd Fanek. As head of the Iraqi National Congress movement, which was opposed to Saddam Hussein’s regime, Chalabi’ second home had been London. Nevertheless, Fanek agreed that Chalabi’s demise spelled satisfaction for Jordan.
