William Greider: Larry Summers is "Professor Pants-on-Fire "
How can I say this nicely? Larry Summers is a clumsy public liar. His noxious, condescending manner helps explain why he failed as president of Harvard. But it is the crude mendacity that ought to bother people now. The man is President Obama's top economic adviser.

Watching Summers befog the mild-mannered interviewer on the PBS NewsHour the other night, I found myself yelling back at the TV. It takes real arrogance for the former Harvard professor to imagine he can away with such evasions and falsehoods. I lost count on the fibs. If this is how Summers explains the financial mess to the president, maybe that's why Obama has been a reluctant reformer.

Banks "made mistakes" or "errors." That is as far as Summers would go in his critique. Instead of bailing out "too big to fail" banks, he was asked, why not just limit the size of the banks?

Bad idea, Summers said.

1. He's almost in Bill Kristol's league
When he can branch out and be completely wrong in other areas besides economics, then he will give Kristol a run for his money.

2. Anybody who knows anything about what Summers did to Russia, knows what he's doing to us.
It's the old rip and burn. Take what you can carry, and put a torch to the rest. Goes back to the Goths.

Says a lot about the guy who now employs him, too.

3. Larry Summers is a living breathing bad idea.
His reputation precedes him, and Obama could not be unaware of it.

Harvard ignored warnings about investments
Advisers told Summers, others not to put so much cash in market; losses hit $1.8b

4. "Larry Summers is a living breathing bad idea."
And this simply can't be a coincidence. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

5. Such Marvelous Quotes!
Ridicule is the only tool we have to bring down the crooked. It worked for Nixon; the Reaganites tried to assassinate anyone who attacked their puppet; and Bush I and II were just living ridiculous.

The attempt to ridicule Clinton with sexual innuendo was half-assed. If the GOP had REALLY wanted to attack, they should have gone after his policy choices. But they were all in favor of those that were PNAC compatible: Iraq, welfare, etc. They did ridicule the Health reform, but it ws a worthy target, even though it has since been passed by Obama's efforts...
