The Gulf Coast Spill and Sarah Palin Are Both Toxic

On April 3, 2010, before I began writing for Huffington Post, I published an article on my personal blog entitled “Palin Prefers Homilies to Homework- “Drill Baby Drill” malialitman.wordpress.com/2010/04/03/palin-prefers-ho…. This article was written two and one half weeks before the tragic explosion in the Gulf Coast on April 21, 2010. See, http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/21/oil.rig.explosion/index.html The impetus for the article was the plan unveiled by Barack Obama for additional offshore drilling, and Palin’s criticism of that plan. Throughout the 2008 campaign Palin and McCain advocated the need for more off-shore drilling, by saying, “Drill Baby Drill”. Even when the President indicated that he would consider the authorization of additional drilling, after environmental studies had been conducted, Palin was still critical. Let me repeat…Palin was critical of the President’s concern for the environment. At that time Palin suggested by her comments that Obama’s plan was a joke. http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/sarah-palin-explains-why-the-new-offshore-drilling-plans-are-a-joke-459634.html?tickers=xom,xle,cvx,rdsa,cop,spy,dia

Palin explained:

“…Delays or major restrictions in accessing these resources for environmentally responsible development are not in the national interest…”http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2010/03/sarah-palin-stall-baby-stall.html; malialitman.wordpress.com/2010/04/03/palin-prefers-ho….

“I’ve seen plenty of such studies. What we need is action.” http://governorpalin4president.blogspot.com/2010/03/sarah-palin-op-ed-obama-drilling-farce.html

In the April 3rd article, I quoted Richard Feinberg from Alaska, who was an oil and gas analyst, and who consulted with Palin’s administration, before she resigned as Governor, in both 2007 and 2008. See, http://www.globalresearch.ca/indes/hph?context. Jamail, Global Research.com, and Insider: Palin Failed to Lead on Oil and Gas Safety in Alaska; malialitman.wordpress.com/2010/04/03/palin-prefers homolies. Mr. Feinberg prophetically declared:

“Based upon my first-hand experience, I can tell you that Sarah Palin is misinforming the public on ACES (Alaska Clear and Equitable Share-one of three pieces of legislation for which she takes credit) as she does many other issues. Ibid.

“When it comes to the craft of governance, Palin exhibits a superficiality that I find frightening. She tends to prefer homilies to homework and all too often over-simplifies or distorts issues.” Ibid.

The Gulf Coast spill could eclipse the Exxon Valdez disaster,

and constitute the “worst environmental disaster in decades.” http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100429/ap_on_bi_ge/us_louisiana_oil_rig_explosion Palin now hopes that we have forgotten her callous attitude, complaining of the President’s concern for the environment. Sarah Palin hopes that we have forgotten her slogan of “Stall Baby Stall”, indicating her disregard for the necessity of environmental considerations. Now on April 30, 2010, on her Face Book post Palin, suggests that she is concerned for the environment. Now that we are faced with a national catastrophe, Palin suggests that her heart goes out to the millions of Americans affected by the spill. http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin. Now that our country is confronted with a disaster that is unrivaled by anything we have experienced in decades, Palin has become an over-night advocate for the environment.

In her Face Book post yesterday, Palin explained:

“Actions must be taken to increase oversight to prevent future accidents. Government can and must play an appropriate role here….

All responsible energy development must be accompanied by strict oversight…” http://www.facebook.com/sarahpalin, April 30, 2010

Palin has mocked our President’s concern for environmental issues associated with off-shore drilling. It has been less than one month since Sarah Palin characterized the plan with the memorable phrase: “Stall Baby Stall”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP4PJlufZ0c Palin now suggests she is filled with sympathy and concern. Certainly her change of position in this instance is reminiscent of her willingness to characterize herself as being in favor of whatever is popular at the time. Remember the Bridge to Nowhere that she originally supported, http://www.flickr.com/photos/baratunde/2826860356 , and later at the Republican National Convention professed that she opposed. I think the phrase was “thanks, but no thanks”. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/05/palin-yet-to-say-no-thanks-to-other-big-earmarks. This time it’s as if she originally said “thanks, but no thanks” to concern for the environment. Now that we are facing the “worst environmental disaster in decades” Palin suggests a totally different position and assumes we will have forgotten what she said just two weeks ago. Oil is spilling into the Gulf Coast at a rate of 200,000 gallons each day, and it might take three months to stop the flow of oil, http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100429/ap_on_bi_ge/us_louisiana_oil_rig_explosion. There is conern that the rate of flow could double if the wellhead is damaged. http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/04/29/v-fullstory/1604316/growing-oil-spill-could-eventually.html The slick is already more than 130 miles long and 70 miles wide. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100430/ap_on_bi_ge/us_louisiana_oil_rig_explosion. Something that big is hard for even Sarah Palin to ignore.
