Bachmann says, " .... what has transpired into turning our country into a nation of slaves"
Edited on Tue Jul-13-10 07:22 AM by Stuart G
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) believes that President Barack Obama is turning the United States into a “nation of slaves.”

Politico , July 12

Bachmann made the comments over the weekend while appearing at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver.

According to the Colorado Independent, Bachmann first read a letter from John Jay that he wrote during the Revolutionary War.

“We are determined to live free or not at all. And we are resolved that posterity shall never reproach us with having brought slaves into the world,” Jay wrote.

Bachmann then riffed off of Jay in her own worlds, telling the audience, “We will talk a little bit about what has transpired in the last 18 months and would we count what has transpired into turning our country into a nation of slaves.”

Bachmann later asserted that the 18 months in which Democrats have held the White House along with the House and Senate have amounted to “tyranny,” pointing directly to the health care reforms Obama was able to shepherd through earlier this year.

1. This offense at slavery was not questioned as she and her
colleagues voted for a war with out end, illegal wire tapping, patriot act, bank bailouts,,,,,,,, I would say that the eight years before the eighteen months set the tone and actions of tyranny. In fact she did a good job of supporting it, before she didn't.

1 : oppressive power <every form of tyranny over the mind of man — Thomas Jefferson>; especially : oppressive power exerted by government <the tyranny of a police state

7. Survey USA poll: Bachmann leads Dem opponent by 9 points.
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/07/surveyusa-poll-bachmann-leads-dem-opponent-by-9-points.php?ref=fpb

The new SurveyUSA poll of the MN-06 district gives Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann, perhaps the single biggest star of the Tea Party movement in Congress today, the lead over her Democratic challenger, state Sen. Tarryl Clark.

The numbers: Bachmann 48%, Clark 39%, Independence Party candidate Bob Anderson 6%, and independent Aubrey Immelman 2%. The survey of likely voters has a ±4.2% margin of error.

The district is very friendly to Republicans, having voted for John McCain by 53%-45% in 2008 and George W. Bush by 57%-42% in 2004. However, Bachmann nearly lost re-election in the Democratic year of 2008, after her infamous Hardball interview in which she called for a media exposé of Barack Obama and other Democrats for possible anti-American beliefs -- citing as evidence Obama's association with such nefarious figures as his wife, Michelle Obama. Since then, she's only gotten more vociferous, ranging from calls for "orderly revolution" to decrying America's new status as a "nation of slaves." And it's all paid off handsomely -- with Bachmann massively out-raising Clark's seemingly impressive haul.
---------------------------------------------

I think her district is just as nutty as she is.

11. Wait a minute.
I'm in her district. Harumph.

But MN 6th is gerrymandered like a snake with legs. It contains all the megachurches in the area, certain rural inbred areas (citation: http://www.authorsden.com/categories/article_top.asp?catid=23&id=43190 -- see point number 8: Stearns County Syndrome), and a few of the wealthy suburbs that are enclaves of white privilege.

Part of what makes Bachmann hard to beat here is the churches who all but hold parishioners hands and vote for them. She attends all of these churches as a guest and is given podium time to dog whistle like KlanWizard.

But she can be beat. People in the area are losing jobs and they are sick about the BP gulf disaster among other position that Bachmann has taken such as the non extension of unemployment benefits. Even the old church going farts have kids who are unemployed and they don't want them moving back home. She can be beat and Taryl is the one to do it.

10. I've met and worked with Taryl.
She's the real deal. Honest, hard working, and she cares. She's a moderate progressive which is about 5 millions miles to the left of Bachmann.

Please send donations to her. Bachmann is a dangerous nut who is outraising her in funds, but through the usual suspects for the repubs, large corps and the wealthy. We can beat this witch but it will take lots of us giving a little each.

2. That woman must walk real funny
with her head shoved so far up her bony butt. Seriously, I think even the crazed church people she represents are starting to catch a clue about her.

The more she bleats this nonsense, the better chance Tarryl Clark has to oust her, even in a district as ridiculously gerrymandered as that one is.

4. Completely out of context
And so wrong, it couldn't be more wrong. If Bachmann had been alive in 1775, she would have been a Tory. If she had been alive in 1787-88, she would have been one of the very anti-federalists Jay argued against in the Federalist Papers.

It's always surprising when these folks bring up the leaders of our revolutionary movement, because the GOP today stands for everything they explicitly rejected after the failure of the Articles of Confederation.

She'd be moving to Germany in order to leverage her investments in gas technologies.

How America inspired the Third Reich
The Nazis learned about Zyklon B from the US treatment of Mexicans, writes paul spike

A brilliant new book by a Mexican-American historian documents how, in the Twenties and Thirties, the Nazis were inspired by what the United States had been doing to their Mexican neighbours since 1917.

In Ringside at the Revolution: An Underground Cultural History of El Paso and Juarez, David Dorado Romo establishes the US Immigration Department's systematic brutality along the Rio Grande border.

Mexican visitors were forced to strip naked and subjected to 'screening' (for homosexuality, low IQ, physical deformities like 'clubbed fingers') and to 'disinfection' with various toxic fumigants, including gasoline, kerosene, sulfuric acid,

I sometimes wonder if idiots like Michelle Bachmann are the equivalent of Alan Greene, maybe we genetically engineered her and planted her to make the repugs look stupid.

17. "we are determined"
Quote:
We are determined to live free or not at all. And we are resolved that posterity shall never reproach us with having brought slaves into the world,” Jay wrote. end quote.

Should that be any consolation to the people who are dying today as a result of lacking health insurance and access to health care?
Should that be consolation to a homeless person who has heat exhaustion and yet cannot sleep?
