Presidential Approval Tracker (Gallup) publ in USAToday shows graphic comparison of presidents
here is the link to an inter-active chart that enables you to look at Job Approval ratings for presidents back to Truman.

link to spreadsheet: http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/presidential-approval-tracker.htm

If you compare Carter's and Reagan's ratings to Obama's it shows what my comparison showed ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=103x527195) for Job Approval Ratings for Presidents in office during a recession.

http://sites.google.com/site/truthisstrangerthanfictionx/Obama_ratings.xls?attredirects=1

My calculations showed that if Obama's Approval rating were as sensitive to the Unemployment Rate as Carter's and Reagan's were (averaged), Obama's rating would be at about 31% Approval now, instead of just shy of 50%. Take a look at Carter's and Reagan's Approval ratings and it shows they are much lower than Obama for their periods of recession. Carter: (Jan - 80 : Jul - 80); Reagan: (July 81 –Nov -82) ..and Carter's rate of Unemployment Peak Rate (7.8%) didn't go as high as we are experiencing now in The Republican Dystopia. (the Unemployment rate peaked during Reagan's admin at 10.8% but Obama's Approval Rating sensitivity to Unemployment Rate is about half what Reagan's was).

Reagan, Nov '82: 36%
Carter, Jul '80: 30%
Obama, currently 47%-48%

Of course, Carter was also affected by the Iran Hostage Crisis too, which certainly drove down his approval rating.

So why is President Obama doing so well, under the circumstances? Very likely because people know the The Great Recession isn't his doing, but the result of the Republican Deregulation Disaster.

But, in the M$M Echo Chamber, it will never be mentioned that if you look at President Obama's Job Approval Rating, normalized for recession, it shows him doing about 50% better than Carter and Reagan likely would be doing if they were in office now.
