Crushed by Feingold’s Defeat

How ironic it is that Feingold, who more than any other Senator tried to limit the poisonous influence of corporate money in politics, succumbed to that very disease.

Progressives across Wisconsin, and across the country, are feeling crushed by the defeat of Sen. Russ Feingold, one of the finest Senators ever to represent the Badger state.

Feingold lost 52-47 to Ron Johnson, a wealthy plastics manufacturer with no political experience.

You can get practically every newspaper endorsement in the state, as Feingold did, including some very conservative ones.

You can be a loyal and dutiful servant of your constituents, coming home every weekend and visiting every county every year, as Feingold did.

And you can still lose.

“Common Cause of Wisconsin estimated the total spent at $40 million to $45 million for the senate race, a record amount. Outside groups spent about $5 million, most of that on ads opposing Feingold,” according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Johnson ran a brilliant, vacuous campaign, with soft, gauzy commercials and an “aw, shucks” regular guy appeal.

He drummed into voters’ minds that Feingold’s first name was “career” and middle name was “politician.”

And he stood in front of gorgeous Wisconsin scenery in ad after ad, and talked about the need to cut spending and to bring a businessman’s perspective—not another lawyers’ perspective—to D.C.............

He is a complete fraud even "stoopider" than the Awol Chimpanzee

And I remain grateful and thankful that he put conviction first.

The voters of Wisconsin had my respect because of Feingold. Shattered now. Get in line behind Florida and Texas.

heads. For years I've maintained that the word cheese in cheese head is a euphemism for the stuff that falls out of the south end of a north bound dog. Let's face it, for way too many of them, the three most important things in their lives are: Da Packers, killing things, and finding new things to kill. Thinking about anything else is beyond their abilities. I heard one of them say how good it would be to have Scott Walker as governor so the concealed carry bill would pass. I was hoping that when he loses his job and house just to get the CCP, he might regret voting for Walker, but he'll probably blame it on Clinton's penis - especially if the mainstream media tells him so.

Russ Feingold is probably one of the only personal heros I have, seeing him lose felt like a deep personal loss. But I think it's wrong to take your anger out on all Wisconsinites, after all nearly half of us in the state voted for him. Republicans will be well.. Republicans, I'd blame the "independents" who either have ADD or were duped into voting for Johnson with pretty ads and ill deserved (in Feingold's case) populist anger.

For what it's worth, Feingold is a supporter of concealed carry. Not all liberals are anti-gun, such as myself (and Senator Feingold!). The near certainty of Wisconsin passing a CCW law is the only good thing that's going to come of that moron Scott Walker being elected governor with a Republican led state legislature.

I e-mailed Senator Feingold's office today offering my thanks for his service, I'd suggest others do the same if they feel the same as me. I'm glad that in the end Russ stuck to his principles (on election financing) even if it cost him his seat. His principles along with his incredibly well reasoned stands on almost every issue are why he is so beloved by many.

It really sucks losing him in the Senate.
