http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBE9d2GdN7U&feature=player_embeddedThe Chernobyl-like fumes still wafting about from Tuesday’s White House bi-partisan lovefest are exposing an interesting divide in the Democratic party. On one side are the old-line populists like Tom Harkin (above), pitted against the corporatist smoothie wing of the party, led by President Obama and outgoing Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut. Obama, judging from his comments, seems to still believe that some sort of detente is possible with the fang-baring vipers of the on the right:
“We understand these aren’t times for us to be playing games. … I think there was a sincere effort on the part of everybody involved to commit to work together and try to solve the problems.”Sincere effort? Here’s Senate minority leader, the google-eyed Mitch McConnell’s (R. Dipshitistan) reaction to the same meeting:
“But our Democrat friends are apparently still reluctant to draw any clear lessons from the election. With millions of American households staring at the imminent prospect of smaller paychecks in just a few short weeks unless Congress does something, Democrats are still searching for a solution that enables them to benefit politically — regardless of what it does to the economy or to families.”CONTINUED:
