GOPers want more deficit reduction... HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR THEM! Reduce deficit $100 Biln in 2 yrs

I understand the Republican deficit reduction proposal of $64 billion reduction isn't good enough for Tea-partiacs.

IF the GOPers are really serious about reducing the deficit (and they aren't really just out to kill off the incipient recovery from this REPUBLICAN DYSTOPIA were in) then they should jump at the chance to reduce the deficit $100 Billion in 2 years, or $154 billion in 3 yrs.

What Democrats should do is offer this proposal to the GOPers: repeal the most onerous sections of the "tax cuts for unemployment extension" deal. Namely: Repeal the extension of tax cuts for those who can survive without them. Repeal the estate tax cuts. Repeal the Capital Gains tax cuts.

This would result in a deficit reduction in two years of $107 Billion.

I suggest everybody email and call your representatives and urge them to offer this deal to the GOPers with the question: "Are you serious about reducing the deficit, or do you just want to kill the recovery from this REPUBLICAN DYSTOPIA?" How about a blizzard of emails and calls to Congress on this proposal?

1. I like this idea. It will remind people that only a couple of months ago the Corporate Lobbyists
Edited on Wed Feb-16-11 07:24 PM by JohnWxy
demanded these tax cuts for those who can get along without them as the price to help people with extended unemployment benefits.

Sent email to my Congressman. Will call tomorrow. Great Idea.

The Dems really need to wake up a bit and counter all the GOP head-line grabbing theatrics with some "put-up or shut up" proposals.

I understand how they are confused and dismayed they are at Obama's proclivity for preemptive compromise on core issues (and especially, his testiness with Democrats who don't agree with his rush to compromise approach - if only he would show the same ire toward the Corporate Lobbyists!!) but still, that doesn't mean THEY should give up fighting.

3. Great Idea! Call them on their HYPOCRISY.

The Democrats in Congress don't seem to know how to deal with GOP histrionics (guess the Democrats are focussed on getting their job done rather than practicing political theater and grabbing headlines).

This is a great idea! Let em explain why they won't support it. Can people making more than $200,000 get along going back a couple years earlier to the tax rates they had before Bush made those reckless tax cuts- (which contributed significantly to the deficit the GOP are NOW so concerned about)?

Of course, the GOP - as far as cuts to the budget in the current and next year go - are really just after killing off any recovery before it can get started. There have been more encouraging economic signs coming out and they are afraid that businesses might really start hiring again. that's why they are chanting about cutting spending in the current year ... while we are still in a recession!!!!

IF they kill this recovery that won't help getting the deficit down. (- that's how you know they aren't thinking of reducing the deficit).

Jesus, I'm so ashamed that it took me so long to wake up to what MFers the GOP are!!!(losing your job, the company that employed you and your career will do that.)

I sent my email. I will call my Representative tomorrow!!!
