Republicans menace America with another Financial 9-11. Their weapon of choice: the Default Bomb.
Edited on Mon May-16-11 02:13 PM by Bill USA
The Republicans are en marche again in their war on America. Following Pol Pot's tactics of destruction and mayhem (Pol Pot's minions burned crops in the fields to create famine and chaos to facilitate their establishment of their own totalitarian system in Cambodia) our own Red State Brigade is demanding all swear fealty to their doctrine of concentration of wealth in the hands of the few. They measure prosperity as the inverse of the average mans standard of living.

Specifically, they demand Obama and the democrats (no. capitalization is not appropriate anymore) accept the Repub plan to cut the deficit by guillotining needed programs so that they can keep the Tax Cuts which helped create the Trickle Down Disaster of 2008. Restoring the tax rates in effect for the top two income brackets - before the disastrous Bush Tax Cuts which exploded the defecit - they call a "tax increase". They declare that Deficit reduction can only be accomplished with massive cuts to the budget. They go into a spitting rage over talk of tax equity as if it's some 'Bolshevic' plot.

Of course, virtually all the known professional economist have said that cutting Government spending now, when we are trying to dig out of this Republican Dystopia would just prolong any recovery and could risk sending the economy into a deeper recession. Such talk only feeds the Red State Brigade's lust for more internecine victories over Obama and the evil democrats. Talk of increasing unemployment rates and increasing home foreclosures only makes the Red State Brigandeers salivate for more democratic blood and American agony. Thus cometh, they calculate, their great 'victory' over the 'incompentent' Obama and democrats. The Red State Brigade's motto is: "Give us your free citizens, we will make of them tired, poor and huddled masses." (...they feed on their spirits, dine on their souls).

The spirit (or demon) of Jay Gould still animates the typical Republican Corporate golem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wage_slavery">"I can hire half the working class to kill the other half".

1. please stop propogating ignorance
we got enough problems as it is

Let me translate from banksterese to English for you:

Geithner: "My buddies are going to get their $$ from the government or I'll purposely default the debt and intentionally cause another financial crisis!"

The Treasury takes in $2T/year and it spends $180B/year on interest payments on the debt. Until the latter figure is larger than the former, there can be no default unless the Treasury deliberately decides to stop making those interest payments.

There's absolutely nothing to compel the Treasury to pay for, say, THREE active wars, instead of paying the interest. Or to keep giving a billion dollars each to dozens of other countries.

Remember who he is. As the former head of the New York Federal Reserve, he was the regulator for Wall Street (wholly captured and owned) during the span of time when they were making all the bad bets that eventually crashed the markets and sent the economy into a tailspin.

2. Oh, I thought Boehner and McConnell were the 'wheels' in the Red State Brigade. My bad.

When all else fails, make up your own logic, then anything you say makes sense. Only problem, it only makes sense to you. :)

5. Maybe someone can refresh my memory
What has Mitch McConnell repeatedly stated that the Republicans' number one goal is?

4. when it comes to "cut throat" politics they wrote the book.
recommended.

Good reading on this subject (if you can stand it) is "the Wrecking Crew" - Thomas Frank

subtitle to paperback edition: "The Wrecking Crew: How Conservatives Ruined Government, Enriched Themselves, and Beggared the Nation" (I'm sure Frank wanted "...and (how they) Buggered the Nation" .. but the publisher probably balked at that.
