Are we being had?

Electoral politics is important in the natural order, but when winning the next election become more important than the safety and well being of the nation, politics will have driven us over the cliff’s edge. And that is where we may be today. When John Boehner says that the most important agenda for the Republican Party is to insure that Obama is a one term President, political skulduggery has trumped the economic survival of the nation.

Perhaps the major reason why the current manufactured debt cap debacle is not being solved is because the Republicans do not want it solved, and will do everything possible to see it stays unresolved. It is to their advantage to see that the argument is reignited a year from now-–prior to the 2012 election. This paired with a lack of serious interest in getting us through the economic pit which has us bogged down, makes the chances of a Republican victory next Fall more likely. Solving either problem may be seriously inhibit Boehner’s vision.

If solving the current problems is good for the country it may be bad for the Republicans. The strategy therefore, seems to be to let these critical issues drags on, crippling even further the economy and providing an additional weapon to use against the President. If the GOP won’t let it be solved, that means they have ammunition to use against an Administration that cannot solve it without their serious negotiated support. Here may be one of the most cynical political ploys in all American history. I wonder what it will take for the American people to wake up and realize we have been had?

1. Solving current problems of the country are bad for big business.
Educate people, give them health care, preventative care, decent housing and life-options and you practically eliminate the profit motive for for-profit schools, the insurance industry, and the prison-industrial complex. Not to mention decreasing the likelihood of a large unemployment pool that will work longer hours for less pay and fewer benefits. or go willingly into the military as a means to provide for their families.

2. We've been had ever since liberals went out of power in 1969
At last, people are starting to notice.

6. How many times did we hear Harry Reid say "but the Republicans wouldn't *let* us..."
When we had total dominance of the House and enough votes in the Senate. Sen. Reid and the spineless senate Dems are just as much to blame as the Repubs for the lack of progress on important programs. The Dems in congress have given in to every Repub demand only to get slapped in the face time and time again. And they kept all the "compromises" in all the bills they voted for. Why? The Repubs all voted NO even after they got everything they wanted in the bills. Since the legislation passed with no help from the minority Repubs at that time, why did the Dems not strip out all of the compromises that were intended to gain Repub votes. Who on DU is stupid enough to do that kind of thing??? (Hope the answer is nobody)

Why did it take 3 years of this for "a few" Dems to get riled up. I've been fuming and screaming at the TV (on occasion) since just days after the election when I saw the weak, limp noodle Dems cowering beside the psycho right wingers, this was even before the President was signed into office.

The Dems had it good for 10 years under Bush: they didn't have to fight for anything, they just went along with whatever the Repubs wanted (after putting up a fake objection now and again). I think they've grown fat, lazy and definitely stupid after a decade of doing nothing. They claimed that they were "ready" in late 2008 to bring some serious change. I'm still waiting on that.

The psycho right is motivated (by greed) and are fired up to push through their agenda at all costs. The Dems are on the "compromise" bandwagon. Who wins in that scenario?
