Republican David Frum: Wake up GOP: Smashing system doesn't fix it
http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/08/01/frum.debt.republicans/index.html

"Editor's note: David Frum writes a weekly column for CNN.com. A special assistant to President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2002, he is the author of six books, including "Comeback: Conservatism That Can Win Again," and is the editor of FrumForum.
(CNN) -- I'm a Republican. Always have been. I believe in free markets, low taxes, reasonable regulation and limited government. But as I look back at the weeks of rancor leading up to Sunday night's last-minute budget deal, I see some things I don't believe in:
Forcing the United States to the verge of default.
Shrugging off the needs and concerns of millions of unemployed."

1. HELLO Frum:
Smashing the system was always the goal. ALWAYS. And they have achieved their objective.
USA! USA! USA!

2. I believe in free markets, low taxes, reasonable regulation and limited government.
I believe in that too.
It's clear to see that the Republicans believe in that shit but NEVER actually do it.
Frum is a bunghole, and he can shove his "comeback conservatism" up his tight ass.

3. Wake up David Frum: the Corporate Lobbyists DON'T WANT TO FIX IT THEY WANT TO DESTROY DEMOCRACY &
replace it with CORPORATE FEUDALISM. The Corporations are the new Lords in this system. If you are not wealthy enough to live off your investments, in other words, you have to work for a living, then you are a serf. IF you are among those wealthy enough to live off you investements, meaning you don't have to work for a living, you are among the new freemen of this New Feudalism.

Don't understand why so many aren't getting this.

7. Yes, and in particular, why doesn't Mr. Obama get it?! He has made the situation much worse by
thinking the Corporate Lobbyist Party is amenable to rational argument. The only thing they respect is someone who is 'on to' them - and doens't put up with any shit from them.

8. I think he gets it just fine. I think he's play-acting.
I think he's on the other side.

5. I believe you nailed it JohnWxy, although I would add the caveat
that even if you're among those wealthy enough to live off your investments, you're at greater risk under this Corporate Feudalism than you would be in a thriving democratic republic that actually believes in "We the People."

6. Yes, you are right. In a vibrant, growing economy, the wealthy, if properly invested, will do

better too. They have a slightly smaller piece of a BIGGER pie.

9. Exactly and the way I see it a truly representative democratic republic has a solid foundation.
"Corporate feudalism" is a house built on shifting sand and only a step away from full blown fascism; in which no one is truly safe.

11. American democracy moved into its new beach house full-time in 2000.
It's the one with the "Security by Xe" placard on the gate...
