How US Social Institutions Have Stifled Youth Resistance
8 Reasons Young Americans Don’t Fight Back: How the US Crushed Youth Resistance

Bruce E. Levine – Alternet

The ruling elite has created social institutions that have subdued young Americans and broken their spirit of resistance. Whereas the youth and student movements have historically energized social transformations – have you wondered why this isn’t happening in the US. Bruce E. Levine analyzes 8 societal factors that have opiate the younger generation in American society to the extent that they have acquiesced to the corporatocracy’s domination.

1. Student Loan Debt
2. Psychopathologizing and medicating non-compliance
3. Schools that Educate for Compliance and not democracy
4. No Child Left Behind and Race to the Top
5. Shaming Young People who Take their Education but not their Schooling Seriously
6. The Normalization of Surveillance
7. Television
8. Fundamentalist Religion and Fundamentalist Consumerism

1. We'll see out breaks of violence in the US soon
the pressure will build in the lower classes... no doubt the main reasons for the Patriot Act and law enforcements new hostile attitude towards civilians.

2. No you won't.
The churches keep the masses drugged with their Pie in the Sky when You Die delusions!

Marx sure was right when he said religion is the opiate of the masses!

3. even churches aren't enough
things are going to get worse, and when they do, the pressures on the poor will rise to a intolerable level.

5. Maybe we should add
Moribund political parties that seem unwilling to accomodate leftist youngsters who are at the age they want to help and who are eventually put off by the kind of 'rah, rah our team, this is the best we can do, we are so fucking pragmatic that losing the gains of the last fifty years will merely be bemoaned than challenged because you can't fight this, now, run along son' crap that you can hear (read) at least several times a day on this site.

There is a generation or so out there that has been denied entry into the political realm (at least not without a certain conformity in worldview)and I think it's funny that the same people who discourage young lefty kids bemoan the uninvolvement of youth presently.

6. Moribund political parties are not just turning off
leftist youngsters....Many seniors who happen to be leftist and ahead of where the politicians of both parties want to go are very turned off as well. The status quo reinforces inertia and resistance to change with 'victimhood' and whining - We can't do that because......

Where is the creativity, innovation? Political obstacles have been overcome in the past...

In defense of the youth, I do occasionally have the youth knocking on my door to get support for green political initiatives, the latest of which was Clean Water....That particular youth was further inspired by the actions of October 6, 2011 and was not only interested in being there but getting his colleagues from his college to go as well....

But the Democratic Party has no message right now - unless it's 'we're better than Palin/Bachman'... it's no wonder youth are turned off. And if negative campaigning has already begun for 2012 - it will only get worse.....I hope there is a primary challenge to Obama.
