Wis. Dems: The Recalls Were A Win For Us!

Wisconsin Democrats are proclaiming great news from Tuesday night's state Senate recalls -- in which they were unable to pick up the needed three seats to gain control of the chamber, instead picking up two seats. And moreover, they are still bullish in their pledge to launch another recall -- this one against Gov. Scott Walker next year.

"Last night's recall elections were tremendously historic," state Dem chair Mike Tate said on a conference call with reporters Wednesday afternoon. "I think they show how vulnerable the Republicans are going into 2012, and how vulnerable Governor Walker is going into a potential recall himself."

Tate noted that the incumbents in Tuesday's races were all last elected in 2008, during a Democratic wave -- thus making it very unfriendly, uphill turf -- but Democrats still gained two seats, in races that showed various swings away from Walker's totals in the districts in 2010.

The question reporters should ask Walker, Tate said, "Is how can he claim this is a real victory for him and his agenda, when his party lost two senators on his watch to recall elections? How can that be a win for Scott Walker when he lost two seats?"

No mistake. Wisconsin Dems say last night's election were a win for them.
And the truth is they're right.

2. Republicans claim victory over anything.
Losing two seats to Democrats from 2 Republican territories is NOT a victory.

this feat, in the face of the rivers of cash that was spent is nothing short of amazing.

:patriot: They can mock and ridicule us, but this is just the beginning. Labor isn't going away.

"Scotty we're coming for you!"

5. Picking up two seats is called winning. Period.
I'm not from Wisconsin, but I have both milked a cow and fallen off a snowmobile in Wisconsin, and I am proud of my family and fellow Democrats there.

7. Yes, but not big enough.
And the Wisconsin Senate is neither horseshoes nor hand grenades.

But, yeah, it was an unprecedented effort that produced two successes. Too bad it wasn't enough.

12. Actually, this narrow margin if it can be maintained in next week's
contests will keep the voters on edge enough to focus on recalling Walker next year.

Walker will do a lot of harm between now and the time for his recall election. Democrats have to keep the news before the public -- keep walking door to door and talking to people.

And above all, get the vote out next week.

8. That depends on how you define "us."
If the "us" is the activists who launched this recall, fought hard, and toppled two sitting Senators, then yes, it's a victory.

If it's the people of Wisconsin, who are now not only under the thumb of the Republicans but can be seen as having given a "mandate" to them by keeping them in control, it's a loss.

If it's the Democratic Party nationwide, which proved it will roll over when a corrupt official steals yet another election, and won't even demand an investigation, it's a BIG FUCKING LOSS.

11. It was definitely a win.
And bringing Democrats together was the most important win of all.
