The Foxification of CNN? 8 Signs the Network Is Trying to Tilt Crazy Right
In the fiercely competitive world of cable news, the players have been jockeying for position as they battle for viewers and advertisers. Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN, each with their own models of programming, seek to gain scale and influence.

Fox News, we know, has established its place as the leader in right-wing advocacy and Republican PR. MSNBC, while not a full-fledged counter to Fox, has allotted a fair portion of its programming to more liberally leaning fare. But CNN, the innovator and one-time leader in cable news, has wavered between those poles emerging as somewhat of a journalistic mutant – neither left nor right nor neutral.

The past year, however, CNN has been attempting to fashion a more recognizable persona. The shift coincides with the promotion of Ken Jautz, formerly the president of CNN’s sister network, HLN. At HLN Jautz successed in raising both ratings and revenue by turning the channel into a trashy TV tabloid reliant on celebrity gossip and characters like Nancy Grace and Glenn Beck (yes, Jautz gave Beck his first job on television).

Now presiding over CNN, Jautz has brought his brash and distinctively commercial style to the network that once aspired to be a model of journalistic integrity. He is employing the same sensationalist philosophy at CNN that brought him success at HLN, along with a decidedly conservative bent. In an interview he gave after his promotion was announced Jautz delivered a tribute to Fox News and a preview of what to expect from his tenure saying that he does not believe that “facts-only” programming will work. True to his word he has endeavored to give CNN a shiny Fox-like hue and assembled a team that shares his aversion to facts.

1. At one time Detroit decided to make cars to break down
on purpose. Exactly what the market did not want. Management geniuses.
So now CNN wants to go even more right, exactly where the market is not going, does not want and does not need. Genius.

This is great news for MSNBC and Current. If MSNBC and Current were smart they would go all gen x and all millenial all the time. These are the people in the streets. They are the future.

4. I believe it.
I just got BBC World News through cable and I don't know how I went without it. No gossip, no stupid stuff.. just NEWS.

I don't miss CNN, Fox, or MSNBC one bit.

7. Thumbs up to BBC
I agree.... and BBC World News is actually world news (as opposed to our "world news" which is largely U.S. news).

8. :)
Even the World News America broadcast is more about mixing International and domestic events and seeing how they affect each other. They also had some of the better coverage of OWS, without trying to spin one way or the other.

I used to have on MSNBC for Morning Joe/Way Too Early while I got ready for work and now I just have on BBC. I wish it was much more popular in the US.

10. Bad journalism AND an idiotic business model.
They are trying to emulate Fox News. Unfortunately for them, the drooling Cro-Magnon demographic is not going to double just because there is a second provider available. The existing right-wing base is habituated to Fox. Even if they figure out that CNN is no longer "the Communist News Network", they can only watch one show at a time and that show is likely to be on Fox News.

Meanwhile, folks who have no use for Fox are likely to develop the same aversion to CNN based on similar content. I see more eyeballs heading for the exits...
