What should happen to New Jersey teacher Viki Knox, who called homosexuality a cancer on Facebook?

POLL: Should a teacher who makes openly bigoted remarks against homosexuals on Facebook be fired?>

People can argue "First Amendment" all they want. It only protects us from the government censoring free speech. employers can do whatever they please. If this woman taught at my son's school, I'd want her fired.

7. She has every right to her opinion and to express it

on her facebook page. Others have every right to ignore her opinion, engage her in discussion of the topic or express their opinion.

Her remarks no matter how distasteful to one, some or many are simply her opinions and nothing more.

That said, she has most likely acted in an unprofessional manner and there should be consequences for such. It will be up to the parents of her students, the parents of the school where she teaches and the school officials to conclude on the correct course of action in her case and to perhaps set an example for the future.
