Imagine four white media pundits on CNN, discussing Arnold Schwarzenegger's gubernatorial campaign. Imagine the show's host mentioning interviews in which the actor joked about how good it felt to "get away with" shoving his Jewish co-star's head down a toilet and how, despite the stereotype of hyper-endowed black men, Arnold has actually encountered a few with average-size equipment.

But substitute "female" for "Jewish" or "black," and you're basically looking at a transcript from the Aug. 17 "Reliable Sources" program on CNN with host Howard Kurtz and three other male journalists. (Of large-breasted blond women, Schwarzenegger has said he's sometimes pleasantly surprised to discover they're not all stupid.)

Is he? Over the past decade, feminists, women's studies scholars and advocates for domestic violence prevention have been calling attention to a rise in (and acceptance of) sexist, woman-hating attitudes in popular culture.
