Bush Can’t Even Defend US Against the Flu -Fear of germ attacks used for political gain, but no substance to defense claims By Dan Spillane, The Liberty Whistle
(SEATTLE) 10/19/04 - For several years now, the Bush administration has been warning US citizens about the likelihood of terrorist attacks—in fact, the public fear generated by this persistent claim has grown to a be a powerful foundation for Bush’s re-election. Indeed, who dares argue about other topics, like jobs or the economy, while the nation is in the grip of fear from nuclear, chemical, or biological attacks?
And so there has been a standing, yet largely unchallenged claim that Bush is the right man to protect the country against these types of attacks. Yet here we are, in the midst of a war--where we were told we might be attacked with bio-weapons—and suddenly we discover our vaccine programs to battle germs are falling apart. Remarkably, amidst all the rhetoric, Bush has done absolutely nothing—with weak vaccine programs, the US is now profoundly at risk for bio-terrorist attacks.
This is yet another example of the Bush administration making false claims about very serious issues. Clearly, if Mr. Bush can’t even defend against the common flu, he has not prepared the US for the bio-terror attacks he so adamantly warns us about.
