Disgusting editorial in the LA Times!
http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-pastore5nov05,1,3170258.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions

Christian Conservatives Must Not Compromise
Voters reject liberalism, an evil ideology.
"The left bewitches with its potions and elixirs, served daily in its strongholds of academe, Hollywood and old media. It vomits upon the morals, values and traditions we hold sacred: God, family and country. As we learned Tuesday, it is clear the left holds the majority of Americans, the majority of us, in contempt.

Simply, a majority of Americans have rejected John Kerry and John Edwards and the left because they are wrong. They are wrong because there are not two Americas. We are one nation under a God they reject. We remain indivisible despite their attempts to divide Americans through their relentless warfare against class, ethnic and religious unity."

Somebody respond to this piece of shit. I'm so upset, I'm fighting acid reflux since election night.

a government matter.

There's a little thing called the separation of Chruch and State, and another little thing called the Bill of Rights that guarantees all individuals Freedom of Religion (which includes a lack thereof), and these allegedly righteous people should stop trying to stuff their brand of religion down the throats of the populace.

That's my opinion.

3. That article succinctly sums of the base worldview of the
average Christian conservative. It should be the Rosetta stone in our efforts to analyze exactly what we are up against. I believe that the road to reaching them will start by our understanding that they are attempting to achieve the same ends that we are, which is to experience their connection, their oneness, their comprehension of their spiritual side. If we are correct in our assessment of their positions, then we would conclude that they are looking for themselves in what is to some degree the wrong place. We would need to understand how they arrived at their current place and in so doing may have some good insights about methods of working with them.

Forgive me if I'm sounding obtuse. It's the best I can do in this venue.

4. Liberalism has been taken captive by the left???
Edited on Fri Nov-05-04 08:36 AM by atommom
I think it's more likely that we're trying to protect it from people like this!

"In the weeks and months to come, we will hear the voices of well-meaning people beseeching the victor to compromise with the vanquished. This would be a mistake. Conservatives must not compromise with the left. Good people holding false ideas are won over only if we defeat what is false with the truth."

It would be laughable, if I didn't honestly think that the current administration agreed 100%.

Anyone want to join me for some evil potions and elixirs? :toast:

5. What a load of old cobblers
I read through it to try to find out what he imagined the "left" was about. Apparently it's witchcraft!

7. It appears we're well on the way ...
to proving WRONG his statement:
"Simply, a majority of Americans have rejected John Kerry and John Edwards and the left because they are wrong."
That seems a rather bold statement to make considering report after report indicates we have yet to determine WHO did receive the "majority" of votes cast.

You made it sound as though the LA Times had suddenly, through its editorial board, zoomed up to the planet Mars. Sheesh (still patting my heart).

9. Did this man nto actually see the numbers?
We remain indivisible despite their attempts to divide Americans through their relentless warfare against class, ethnic and religious unity."

We are *not* united, and his above lie perfectly illustrates why there is a culture war in the first place. We liberals don't fit into his hazy idea of the US, so we aren't a part of his "we". This man clearly has no interest in anything other than fanning the flames of division.

17. Don't kid yourself: This IS the core of what the Republican Party has
become. They want, quite simply, to transform a Democracy into a Theocracy. There is a culture war, no doubt. And it's time to understand it is going to get much nastier.

For those wimps (I've discovered that word may get me busted here) who say flee to Canada or Europe I say Fuck That. I will fight these people on their terms.

I can't sooth your anger. WE ARE AT WAR WITH THESE PEOPLE. THEY DECLARED IT, THEY MAY WIN IT, BUT I WILL NEVER SURRENDER.
