School Talent Show draws Secret Service
As a music journalist, as a Bob Dylan fan, as a freedom loving American, I find this positively Repugnant.

"The principal of the school said he stands behind the students."

Thank God there are still some patriots out there.

6. Steppenwolf's "Monster"
Listened to it the other day, and it's still relevant.

4. The Secret Service has a well-earned reputation for . . .
Historical ignorance, world class humorlessness, and a fanatical sense of duty.

While this last one is perhaps desirable in people whose duty it is to protect the "president," the combination often leads to this sort of head-slappingly foolish attempt to intervene in perfectly innocent behavior.

Not to mention that "imagining the death of the King" hasn't been illegal since roughly the reign of Henry VIII, and a brief look at Dylan's lyrics shows they are in that category -- even presuming they have any relevence at all to a living 'Master of War.'

Jackbooted clods clumping around again.

8. No way.
The secret service was just investigating a report they got. If someone tells them that there's a threat to the president, I'd like them to respond, because someday, there will be a president I admire. Blame the idiots who reported high school students for singing a song and giving their band a totally awesome name.

9. I applaud these students!
The young have a lot to teach us! This is how it started with Veitnam. The young are always the first to protest. The parents who reported these kids ought to be ashamed of themselves. The old farts were doing the same thing during the Veitnam era. It is a shame that these parents have forgotten what it was like to love your country enough to question the direction it is headed in! these are probably the same parents who never show up to school functions and support thier kids! The advertising they gave this little school talent show is likely to blow thier socks off. I wish I could attend!
