Residents step up fight against US embassy (Norway)

"They will eliminate a green area that we all use. Of course we don't want that," said Dag Rimstad as other residents passed out informational material.

The USA has purchased an open area plot of roughly 10 acres from Defense Construction and Property for NOK 80 million (USD 12.7 million). They plan to build a new embassy here and have a projected date of 2010 for the move to Huseby.

Locals fear the loss of their idyllic open spaces and Bjøro compared the embassy project to taking part of the capital's landmark Frogner park - "a rape of the local environment".

"Rape of the local environment" is what the US knows how to do best. The Norwegians should come and take a look at our country if they want to see rape.
