A second issue for State Board of Elections to probe
Today, staff from the State Board of Elections will investigate why
the votes in the Nov. 2 election don't add up in Gaston County. That
inquiry could turn up minor concerns, or it could turn up red flags
that point to serious irregularities.
For citizens there, an answer will be welcome. Soon they will know
exactly how many people voted, and why so many discrepancies in the
balloting and the count emerged.
Yet there is another issue in Gaston County: the attitude of its
elections director toward evidence of problems.
The election speaks for itself.
First, the county failed to tally more than 13,000 votes in its
unofficial count.
