Newsweek: Are Democrats Losing the Black Vote?
Are Democrats Losing the Black Vote?
Newsweek

Nov. 29 issue - It didn't take long for the image to crystallize into icon last week when President George W. Bush stood before cameras with Condoleezza Rice. "I had chills up and down my spine," Democratic operative Donna Brazile tells NEWSWEEK. "I never thought in my lifetime I'd see an African-American woman being nominated as secretary of State. George Bush made that happen."

To assemble a permanent majority party, Republicans know they have to court more than white people living in Red States. Bush's pick adds momentum to that effort. And it's enough to make young, black Democrats sweat. "By 2012," says Jamal Simmons, former spokesman for Wesley Clark's campaign, "the Republicans could get as much as a quarter of the vote if we follow this trajectory."

The Republicans are appealing to African-Americans' conservative instincts with issues like gay marriage and school vouchers, as well as tax-cut appeals to black professionals. Critics say Democrats have been trying to keep the black vote with tired civil-rights appeals and rumors of Republican voter suppression.

The old guard isn't worried. Rep. Elijah Cummings, chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, points to the four congressional seats black Dems just won. "We're the Democrats' most consistent and most loyal constituency," he says. But that doesn't mean Republicans won't try testing that loyalty.

1. If Condi botches the job, I doubt many black Democrats will
be running to vote Republican.

However, it's the evangelical blacks that are peeling off, for sure....

10. Condi already botched the job she had...
when, as National Security Advisor, she failed to motivate the president to take action that may have prevented, or at least disrupted the 9-11 attacks.

All I take from the situation is a neocon being rewarded for incompetency and negligence by being promoted.

13. Condi has managed to botch every job so far (which assures
a beautiful fit with the rest of the * mafia) and the pickled brain materialists have ever more thoroughly endorsed her. Don't think it'll make any difference.

Condoleeza Rice. The known liar. The incompetent.

You, Donna, are a symbol of what is wrong with the Democratic Party. A glaring example.

donna. That was my first reaction to this piece. donna is spinning for the repukes fascists..how do you think that makes me feel as a Democrat?

condi is a known liar and is smeared forever as national security advisor when 9/11 happened.

bush is implementing "The Peter Principle".. "The original principle states that in a hierarchically structured administration, people tend to be promoted up to their "level of incompetence."

donna is all fascade and no substance..just like condi.

Aaron McGruder..calls condi .."DArth Vader". What's so good about that being Secretary Of State?

I don't know why CNN and other media sources always clamor to hear her pearls of wisdom.

9. Donna Brazile. Enough said. How people chose to vote is their
own business. We will either offer people what they deem to be in their best interest and make that message clear or we will not. Clinton is right about one thing when people think they vote for Democrats. I am aware that the election process is broken and nothing else may matter but given fair and free elections I would bet on Democrats. Not an easy task since 2000 but I remain undaunted. I'll tuck Ms Bazille's statements away and review them in about a year. I don't think Bush did Condi Rice a favor by appointing her to this position when our position and image in the world is at the lowest ebb that I can remember.

15. Actually, Lucifer was an honorable angel,
whose biggest failing was his sympathetic attitude toward humanity; but your point is certainly well taken... C.R. is a very bright, totally incompetent idiot.

11. I hope not
Let's not forget that African Americans are just as capable of being idiots as the rest of the red staters.

One thing I HAVE noted is that many of our African American patients (I work in a hospital) say that they voted for Bush* for religious reasons. I am appalled, but what can I do? All I can really do is pray that the coming financial armageddon will convince these idiots that they have FUCKED up and gotten us into this colossal shithole. . .

kerry did as well or better than gore with all minority voters.
by 2012 if the repukes keep up the race baiting hate mongering class warfare they will be lucky to get 5% of the black vote, let alone 25.

of our mainstream media spreading PROPAGANDA and not NEWS.

I think that we at DU should get in the habit of labelling this information as what it is.

18. SHOULD WE GIVE UP
when I read all this negativity, things just seem hopeless. but I just think bush is in this tree, it can not stand much longer. there will be one thing that brings him down. I don't know what it is? This guy, the dummy that he is, can't rise above all of the lies, under minding of the country, and around the world. he must be exposed. but how is the question? the media could do it, but they won't. why they don't is beyond my imagination. Dan Rather tried but look what happened to him. bush is protected by a dark power, that comes forth as an angel of light. Pride cometh before a fall. thats what the good book said. I pray every day, to God, that this man will be exposed for what he is.

I establish my credibility with black clients by making anti bush remarks.

The headline should be, "Is Newsweek totally out of touch with reality?" or are they just pushing the latest propaganda message?

27. Yes Black Box
Visible in the public record of Sequoia Pacific, a company counting one in three American votes, is clear and convincing evidence that the company has been run, perhaps for decades, as a Continuing Criminal Enterprise specializing in blatant and widespread bribery of public officials, with numerous felony convictions, Mob ties, and a history replete with stories of threats, coercion, and even murder.

Sequoia Pacific has a more colorfully-criminal corporate history, we learned, than that of any organization this side of the Gambino Family. In fact, the Gambino Family and Sequoia Pacific have had more than a nodding acquaintance, according to newspapers in New York reporting on the intrigue surrounding the awarding of a multi-million dollar contract for election machines in New York City during the mid-90’s, where Sequoia’s representative in the bidding gained notoriety for attempting to grease the skids al little at a marathon luncheon hosted by Salvatore Reale, a Gambino underboss who later pled guilty to racketeering.

Yet Sequoia Pacific is not unique... Instead, it is emblematic of the systemic wrongdoing of all three major election services companies.
