665,000 unused ballots returned
http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/nov04/278378.asp

Milwaukee election officials returned about 665,000 unused ballots Wednesday to Milwaukee County, part of a pre-election agreement that resolved a high-profile dispute over how many were needed.

But even after the extensive review of all ballots used, it's possible the precise number of ballots returned - and even the exact number printed - will never be known.

As of Wednesday, no ballot-by-ballot count was planned, and county election officials said there typically is a printer's "overrun," so it would be impossible to know the exact number that should be in the huge stack.
