To the Editor:

Re "In My Next Life," by Thomas L. Friedman (column, Nov. 25):

Mr. Friedman concludes his Thanksgiving Day column by thanking God that our public schools "produce" young people willing to risk their lives in Iraq.

As a teacher in a public high school, perhaps I should be flattered, but getting young men who don't belong to the elite classes to fight in an unnecessary war is neither admirable nor, sadly, particularly unusual.
