Letter: Why is the 'Project for the New American Century secret?'
...In the mid 1990s, a group of powerful, wealthy and experienced men and women who held certain ideals joined together to form an organization to promote their goals - the "Project for the New American Century." Many names are famous...

<snip>

...Many Democrats, journalists, more and more Republicans, religious leaders, the world's statesmen, American TV personalities are condemning our latest war, the eighth since World War II. In the middle of the first onslaught in Iraq neocon editor William Kristen said on TV: "When we finish this war in Iraq, we have to go into several other countries in the Middle East and do the very same thing." Scary...

...Do members of the project for the New American Century still hold onto their grand ambitions? Considering the present state of our reputation in the world, and the state of our loyal soldiers entrapped in the quagmire, it would be valuable to find out what they are thinking and feeling, still so dangerously close to our president...

1. I think it's safe to say Iraq didn't turn out quite as planned
If the PNACers want to continue invading other countries, just where do they plan on getting the troops? We're stretched now.....

2. Here was an article written earlier last year about TNAC...
<snip>

The Hawks Loudly Express Their Second Thoughts
The following article is more broadly about how initial supporters of the war in Iraq are having second thoughts, or doubts about how it has been conducted. It's relevant to this site for two reasons: 1) it mentions a number of neoconservatives (Max Boot, Charles Krauthammer, Bill Kristol, and more) amongst the ranks of the disappointed, and 2) it speaks of how traditional conservatives (like CNN pundit Tucker Carlson, for example) are waking up to the fact that they allowed themselves to be spun into supporting a war which is not reflective of a conservative view of government's role.

That sentiment is summed up best in this sentence:

How, they wonder, did so many conservatives, who normally don't trust their government to run a public school down the street, come to believe that federal bureaucrats could transform an entire nation in the alien culture of the Middle East?

Good question.

The article is worth reading just for the quote near the end from Edmund Burke about empire. I'm archiving the entire article here-- you can access the original at the link below.

4. Sounds to me like all the evidience
that is needed to start impeachment can be found in the project for the new american century alone, without even looking at WMD.

6. Shit, yes. Their website alone is grounds for impeachment, if you read it.
Though I'd suggest having some blood pressure medication handy before doing so.

8. Why is PNAC on a public website?

Why would they make this public? There is absolutely no reason for that website to exist. How does this promote their agenda? Are the members of PNAC logging in to that site and discussing ways to dominate the world and then posting their beliefs and ideals for the world to see?

I can't understand the logic.

11. I think it's been there for quite some time, and if they removed it now
that a lot of people have known about it, it wouldn't be good PR I guess.

AND/OR,

Their members know that their base is too stupid and lazy to read the information; they'll just glean neatly-spun summaries of it from their RW friends about our grand plan to save the Middle East from itself and that will be that. They'll never read Rebuilding America's Defenses, it's a huge download with big words and no pretty pictures.

I'm inclined to think maybe a combination of both.

I've brought PNAC's site to the attention of many a Bushie. Their responses were interesting:

"That's just a think tank. Think tanks have no power and if you knew anything about the government you would already know this and stop spewing your ridiculous conspiracy theory crap." (This idiot, obviously, had no idea who PNAC was and when I told her she vanished from the message board)

"That website was made up by you hateful lefties."

"So the government wants to protect our way of life. So?"

13. PNAC is not a secret conspiracy
It is essentially a think tank and though the public is mostly ignorant of its existence and influence, it is not some kind of illegal organization that must hide its purpose.

This February 2003 article provided a good short perspective on PNAC, and is still a good introduction:

10. Key Positions of PNAC with plain English translation
Derived from Disinfopedia (http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Project_for_the_New_American_Century )

Among the key conclusions of PNAC's defense strategy document (Rebuilding America's Defenses) were the following <3> (http://www.fpif.org/papers/02men/box1_body.html):

"Develop and deploy global missile defenses to defend the American homeland and American allies, and to provide a secure basis for U.S. power projection around the world."
Translation: Conquer the world by land, sea, air, and even outer space. Detain, imprison, torture, and/or destroy any individual, group, or nation that gets in the way of the neocons’ crusade for global dictatorship.

"Control the new 'international commons' of space and 'cyberspace,' and pave the way for the creation of a new military service--U.S. Space Forces--with the mission of space control."
Translation: Why stop at conquering the world when conquering the universe is so much fun? While we’re at it, we can use the Internet and outer space to try to conquer the angels, saints, and even God Himself!

"Increase defense spending, adding $15 billion to $20 billion to total defense spending annually."
Translation: $15 to 20 billion more? Is that all? OOPS, I forgot the Pentagon has to pay for those weapons programs that don’t work with cuts in pay and benefits for military personnel and even more cuts in veterans’ benefits. And don’t forget the millions of civilians who will suffer, because we don’t care about them. They’re just the surplus population.

"Exploit the 'revolution in military affairs' to insure the long-term superiority of U.S. conventional forces."
Translation: Bomb nations from the comfort of your own living room.

"Need to develop a new family of nuclear weapons designed to address new sets of military requirements" complaining that the U.S. has "virtually ceased development of safer and more effective nuclear weapons."
Translation: Scrap the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty so we can nuke “uncooperative” nations into oblivion. This gives new meaning to “nuclear family.”

"Facing up to the realities of multiple constabulary missions that will require a permanent allocation of U.S. forces."
Translation: Let’s start World War 4 by picking fights with multiple unarmed countries, while lying to the American people by pretending they have WMD’s. Then pretend that nations who repel our invasions are insurgents or even terrorists. Colonializing one country at a time isn’t fun.

"America must defend its homeland" by "reconfiguring its nuclear force" and by missile defense systems that "counteract the effects of the proliferation of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction."
Translation: What if the weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles never existed to begin with? Simple solution: lie to the American people and pretend that there are WMD’s. The people are too stupid to see through our weapons of mass deception!

"Need for a larger U.S. security perimeter" and the U.S. "should seek to establish a network of 'deployment bases' or 'forward operating bases' to increase the reach of current and future forces," citing the need to move beyond Western Europe and Northeast Asia to increased permanent military presence in Southeast Asia and "other regions of East Asia." Necessary "to cope with the rise of China to great-power status."
Translation: Plan on picking fights with China to prove to the world that America is the only superpower allowed on this planet. So what if we outsourced all our American manufacturing jobs to China? They’re not supposed to get any ideas of becoming a superpower rivaling us? That’s America’s prerogative.

Redirecting the U.S. Air Force to move "toward a global first-strike force."
Translation: Bomb first; ask questions later.

End the Clinton administration's "devotion" to the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty.
Translation: Scrapping the ABM treaty is a start. Let’s also scrap any treaty we don’t like, and by the way, forget about the rule of law itself. Laws and other restrictions only apply to Democrats and foreign countries.

"North Korea, Iran, Iraq, or similar states to undermine American leadership, intimidate American allies, or threaten the American homeland itself."
Translation: These are just the first countries we’re going to pick on.

"Main military missions" necessary to "preserve Pax Americana" and a "unipolar 21st century" are the following: "secure and expand zones of democratic peace, deter rise of new great-power competitor, defend key regions (Europe, East Asia, Middle East), and exploit transformation of war."
Translation: America intends to start a global empire, and if you don’t like it, tough! We’re going to be dictators of the world, and that’s all there is to it. So submit or die!

According to the PNAC report, "The American peace has proven itself peaceful, stable, and durable. Yet no moment in international politics can be frozen in time: even a global Pax Americana will not preserve itself." To preserve this "American peace" through the 21st century, the PNAC report concludes that the global order "must have a secure foundation on unquestioned U.S. military preeminence." The report struck a prescient note when it observed that "the process of transformation is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event--like a new Pearl Harbor."
Translation: So this is the real reason we engineered those planes ramming into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon; so we can blame bin Laden and justify ramming our unpopular, destructive imperial ambitions down the throats of humanity.

9. There is little new in PNAC...though this group has a new name, it is
an action group for a decades old plan to control the world and suppress and contain the people.

Every member of PNAC and the CPNs, CEOs, bankers, secret societies, judges, and the Senate and House so-called leaders who facilitate their efforts should be in jail for being traitors.

For them, there is no sovereign nation - not even the U.S.

CPNs = Corporate Propaganda Networks
