Because of the news there are no WMD in Iraq. They raised the terror alert level to distract from the news that the Kurds found Saddam and they lowered it to distract from the news that they have not found WMD in Iraq.

two other things could happen: 1)Bin Laden is 'found' in a hole somewhere. 2)The U.S is hit with an actual terror strike.

I honestly think that's thinking too much. Too many people would have to be involved in something as silly as that. I guess I am a DUer who feels out of place at times with the more lefty late night crowd here. I DO believe there's a radical Islamic movement to hit Western culture and, if possible, destroy it. Bill Clinton certainly believes it. Al Gore believes it. All of the candidates for president SAY they believe it. But yet...I feel out of step with DU at times. I have to remind myself that there are many DUers who don't buy into all the LIHOP, MIHOP, etc.........not to mention all the Democratic leaders who feel as I do on this issue. But, I respect the fact that others believe differently.

That doesn't mean that the present administration is not using the terrorist attacks/threats to their own political advantage. Are you saying they aren't using fear tactics to advance their own agenda?

If LIHOP/MIHOP are paranoid delusions, then why all the stonewalling on an investigation. If the threat is real, why would we not want to figure out what went wrong on Sept 11, 2001, in order to prevent a similar incident in the future?

we would have invaded not only Afghanistan but Pakistan. We would have had a million troops on the ground looking under every rock and in every "spider hole" until we'd found every terrorist.

But we didn't do that. We instead went into Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11 or anything else, and we let Pakistan 100% off the hook.

That's when I started to smell a rat.

Also, this picture, which is obviously NOT Bin Laden (the one on the left, the "fat" Bin Laden, is the man seen in the videotape where this Bin-Laden imposter claims to be responsible for 9/11. Who made this tape? The CIA? Somebody made this tape with an ACTOR playing Bin Laden).

These two tidbits alone throw the entire official story into complete doubt for me.
