Could the Libertarians be a Threat to Shrub?
As of right now, there's no Ross Perot-type willing to challenge Shrub, but if we could give clandestine support to a Libertarian candidate, maybe would could take enough Repuke votes away to win. Consider this guy:

Although he appears like a fringe candidate, his anti-Shrub, pro-Reagan rhetoric would help the Paleo-Cons rise up against the Neo-Cons and hurt the Repukes.

And the picture half way down looks like the rejected audition for the movie Twins.

Edited for grammar

2. Maybe
Libertarians HATE the Patriot Act. Emphasis on eliminating the national debt would also help.

3. That might be VERY important to beating Bush.
Much like Perot helped Clinton defeat Bush I.

10. Actually, Perot's effect was negligable. It's a myth.
When he dropped out briefly in the 1992 elections, Clinton's poll numbers went up to around 53%, and Bush's went up to around 42%.

What it showed was that about 1/3 of Perot voters would've gone to Clinton, 1/3 for Bush, and 1/3 would've stayed home, had he not run for president.

Keep in mind Bush's approval rating was about 38% at the time of the election - there's no way he would've won with those numbers.

5. probably not, none have enough presense to matter
Perot was pretty unique (had his own money to spend) and not Libertarian.

Jesse Ventura is the closest thing and he's not interested.

6. The libertarians I've seen on discussion boards think Bush is liberal?
Can't imagine the wild rationalization that leads them to that conclusion, but they certainly do detest him... he isn't going to be getting many votes from that section of his "core" supporters :-)

8. They probably consider him liberal...
Because...
He's liberaly increasing the size of government.
He's liberaly spending us into a greater and greater deficet.
He's liberaly throwing away American credibility.
He's liberaly throwing away our allies.
He's liberaly throwing away american soldiers lives.
He's liberaly cutting vets benifits.
He's liberaly lying about everything.

See, * is not a conservitive (/sarcasm)

7. i'm no big fan
of Gary Nolan, but he seems like the first decent candidate the Libertarians have put up in a while (who isn't better than Harry Browne?). The other major candidate for them is some guy who teaches a night class on the Constitution -- gimme a break.

Although I won't vote for Mr. Nolan, I like him alright, and I think he's got a decent shot of taking some votes from Bush.
