A lovely thread from the FReepers on MLK wreath laying. . .
. . .and the protesters against Bush. Forgive me for subjecting you to this, but all those who sometimes tend to think (like those here sympathetic to Limbaugh) that maybe the Bushies aren't really evil and hateful occasionally need a wake up call. Well, WAKE UP. If you're easily offended, be warned: Not for those of tender sensibilities. But these are Bush's hard core supporters; his "base," if you will, and some need a reminder of this. Here's one example - just one of many - about Bush laying the wreath, and the link:

To: denydenydeny
"laid a wreath?"
Shoulda pinched a loaf.

21. Bush will never criticize his base - no "Sister Souljah" moment for him
I have waited since 1994 for some Republican - any Republican, anywhere - to say that Limbaugh has occasionally gone over the top. It has never happened. It never will happen. Only Dems are ever expected to criticize members of their base. Even this, one of the most racist threads I have ever seen on FR (and there have been plenty) is there because the posters know that Bush is with them, with a wink and a nudge. Blacks who vote GOP may as well drink the Kool-Aid, and thank God most know it.

I wouldn't be surprised if these "protestors" were drafted to do nothing more than hail abuse at Bush in the hope that it will smear all Bush protestors as anti-MLK; and by extension, anti-freedom and anti-civil-liberty. It's a classic political propoganda technique -- Bush associates himself with someone who is widely respected and revered and deliberately exposes himself to protest. By doing this, he can claim a "moral superiority" over the "protestors" and in his mind, hopefully plant a seed in the minds of the general population that says that everyone who protests against him is also anti-MLK.

I don't for one minute believe that even the freepers of this world would protest Bush simply because he attended MLK's grave. That's too dumb even for them.

20. Not sure I understand your post.
The protesters were anti-Bush, and pro-MLK's message. The protesters were furious that Dr. King's message of peace and social justice should be used as a photo op by this warmongering, elitist SOB president. The Freepers know where Bush is coming from, they are slavishly loyal to him (for the most part; a few exceptions always shouted down). They know how he really feels about MLK, because he is one of them. And now you have seen just how awful and degraded they are.

He would lose the re-elelction if he did that.

Twilight Zone- Maybe those protesters were paid by the Neo Fascists?

If not, these protesters should really think about what sort of image they create. It just makes Dubya look picked on and makes the protesters seem small minded and disrespectful. In other words, it doesn't help their cause. They should've all dressed in black clothes and had signs that said GW Bush-Hypocrite and stayed silent.

31. This is either satire or nonsense.
I can't tell if you're joking. "It makes Dubya look picked on and makes the protestors seem small minded."

You know, if I had a fucking penny for every johnny-come-lately on DU who claimed that Dems speaking our minds only makes us look bad, I'd be able to pay off the national debt. No. No. No!

Why would we listen to anyone who claims that expressing ourselves damages our cause? What moral authority do these kinds of posters have that they think that any time a Dem or a liberal acts like a feeling, thinking human being it'll backfire? Doesn't sound like a person who shares my views, nor someone I'd go to for advice. I could give a FLYING FUCK what the right thinks of me and of my party. THEY ARE WRONG and I refuse to adapt my actions, nor would I advocate any other Democrat or Progressive, to better conform to their false paradigm. It's bullshit. Either we go through life constantly cringing in fear that some fascist blowhard might - OH NO!!! - say a bad word about us, or WE FIGHT FOR OUR SURVIVAL. I make the latter choice.....you are free to choose for either. (For just how long you ARE free to do ANYTHING depends on whether you support progressive causes....)

Why does the poster say nothing about the FReeper thread, which is the subject of this post? Makes Dubya "look picked on?" What kind of moral courage is that? Protesters are "small minded?" What about the Freepers? Does that thread from Bush's base not indicate that maybe some protesting is in order? No wonder you used the language you did, which I never do, but I sure as hell am getting worked up as I try to respond to Snappy's assertions. Hope Snappy will return with some amplification.

Bush & Eugenics

snip>

On Eugenics ---- "The must put the most modern medical means in the service of this knowledge.... Those who are physically and mentally unhealthy and unworthy must not perpetuate their suffering in the body of their children.... The prevention of the faculty and opportunity to procreate on the part of the physically degenerate and mentally sick, over a period of only 600 years, would ... free humanity from an immeasurable misfortune."
-- Adolph Hitler

"The per capita income gap between the developed and the developing countries is increasing, in large part the result of higher birth rates in the poorer countries.... Famine in India, unwanted babies in the United States, poverty that seemed to form an unbreakable chain for millions of people--how should we tackle these problems?.... It is quite clear that one of the major challenges of the 1970s ... will be to curb the world's fertility."

DU needs a page just for archiving threads like this one, as a handy up-front reference for when Rush and his brownshirts start spreading horror-stories about all us evildoers here at DU.

In particular, note post #5 (by billorites) saying that GWB should really have taken a shit on MLK's grave (not the mention the flagrant KKK-style bigotry, the stock Bircher claims that all protestors are really just "rent-a-mobs", etc, etc, etc).

The point : remember this thread next time a freeper mentions the name "Starpass".

They've now edited the thread, and, in particular, they've deleted the post (#5) that said that Bush should have taken a shit on MLK's grave (although they still left in the responsive posts -- "Good one!", etc).

As I said: we need a central place for archiving these kinds of threads in their original form, so that JimRob can't simply stuff them down the memory hole when the neighbors start to notice the stench.

43. right wing sites and censorship
Right wing sites are often quoted by their opponents to illustrate the hate that is masked by 'mainstream' Republican rhetoric.

The site masters are getting wise and are snipping and censoring the blatantly bigoted stuff. This appears to have happened at FR.

I would advise people to archive stuff before it gets snipped.

45. republicans = phonies
See, FR is useful. For example, this gem :

From the online article, "Honoring the King Myth" - http://www.thenewamerican.com/tna/1999/01-04-99/king_myth.htm

In 1983, shortly after Congress approved the bill which would create a national holiday honoring the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King, former New Hampshire Governor Meldrim Thomson sent a letter to his old friend Ronald Reagan, urging the President not to sign the bill for a holiday honoring "the memory of a man of immoral character whose frequent associations with leading agents of communism is well established."

In response to Thomson, the President wrote: "On the national holiday you mentioned, I have the reservations you have, but here the perception of too many people is based on an image, not reality. Indeed, to them the perception is reality." (Emphasis in original.) In other words, Mr. Reagan knew that Martin Luther King was, in reality, unworthy of national adulation. Nonetheless, on November 2, 1983, he put his signature on the bill and the holiday became law.

Good to see FR spelling out the real Republican agenda.

53. Doesn't the Pickering appointment fit perfect with this?
The Pickering recess appointment, right after laying a wreath on MLK's grave, is Bush's way of giving a wink and a nod to his supporters that he really didn't mean the wreath thing. The FReepers may get pissed occasionally at Bush, but they know he will always send a message - like the Pickering appointment on MLK weekend - that lets them know where he really stands. As pointed out earlier, you will hear utter silence in terms of condemnation of these comments from any Republican leaders. Blacks and gays who vote Republican are just drinking the Kool-Aid.
