15-20 Georgia Dems attend Bush fundraiser in Atlanta
Including good 'ol Zell, who introduced the president. Some of the Democratic attendees said they were not there to endorse Bush, but rather to attend a "presidential function".

3. The sad thing is that our votes made him formidible.
Zell ain't nothing but a ( fill in the blank), we made him something with our votes. I feel cheated. Zell went totally out of whack after that NRA convention he gave a speech at.

4. I'd respect him more if came out of the closet...
...and just admitted he was a republican instead of trying to destroy the party from within by complaining that everyone in the party but him changed.

21. Isn't this what Trojan Horses do?
Destroy from within? My question is why he gets elected on the Democratic ticket? Who is voting for him? I hope not Democrats.

27. I think the only reason Zell doesn't switch....
... parties is because as long as he holds that seat it keeps the Dem party in Georgia from running a real democrat for the Senate.

Think about it, folks!

5. Nothing admirable about a person who who betrays his Party.
Particularly, to support a distinctly incompetent, unelected liar who serves the interests of corporate war-profiteers.

So I totally disagree with you about "respecting his convictions". He lost his a long time ago.

6. Fuck Zell
I said it in another thread below. I could care less about his convictions - if he is a Dem, then be a Dem. Don't go to Republican fundraisers, shake hands with a Republican President, and go on Republican TV and slam your party. I have NO RESPECT for the Zell Millers of the world. You would never see this in the Republican party. We shouldn't put up with this in the Democratic party either.

Does anyone know what repercussions (if any) Zell is facing for taking a big crap where he sleeps? Or does the fact that he is a lame duck exempt him from any kind of party discipline?

I don't say this much - but I think I hate him.

8. Zell's not worried what anyone thinks......
I live in GA and he has said several times, he's retiring and doesnt care if people get mad at him. When he was Gov. he started a HUGE ruckus when he tried to change the state flag (take off the rebel "X"), and he STILL got elected senator in a landslide. Go figure.........

26. Uh, he was appointed senator wasn't he
Zell did suggest changing the flag. And thankfully its been changed and then changed again. Zell is popular in Georgia, but I do wonder now, why is he still a Democrat.

7. No I don't
He' nothing but a damned skinny-ass, spindle-shank turncoat. He ought to be horse-whipped. He can go crawl back in whatever hole Lester Maddox dug him out of.

12. Zell
Zell is an old Marine. He has served his country honorably. As A Georgian I can tell you he did great things for the state as Governor. He instituted a lottery here that has helped many kids get a better education, and he was the first man to get the idea out to replace the GA flag.Zell went to Washington with this statement"I will go to Washington to serve Georgia not the democratic party."

He's not a great politician but the man has kept his word and served GA well.I just have to have respect for a man that is more concerned with his responsibility's to his job than his critics, but don't worry he will be gone soon....Georgia will miss him but I do understand why the Nation will say good riddance.

14. Welcome to DU, Mr. Hobbs.
We've got the Florida lottery for education and it's been a complete scam. I have to take issue with state governments that try and raise money through legal gambling.

16. Isn't a sad state of affairs
when we have to use lotteries to fund social programs like education, social services for seniors, etc.?

If people want to gamble, that's fine, but the state shouldn't be in the business of sponsoring and promoting lottery play, especially since the people who are likely to play the most are folks who are already at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder. Lotteries are incredibly regressive.

17. That is so Democratic!!!
Did you notice that is usually Democrats pushing for gambling? Ed Rendell is doing that in PA to send every cent to education. What blows is that gambling money doesn't come from wealthy people, it comes from poor people who don't know any better. Gambling is an addiction and a problem for some people.

I like Democrats and Ed Rendell and their hearts are in the right place, but I disagree on this issue.

20. That's because Republicans leave us
with no other choices for funding social programs - usually the lottery is the only way to get needed $$$ into the system. Of course, many states have seen their lotteries turn into boondoggles - havens for waste and corruption, with unfulfilled promises as funding panaceas.

I generally don't have problems with legalized gaming, but not when they are run by the State.

9. It's really got to make you wonder how much they're paying old Zell.
It's clear that most of the "friends" of * are bought and paid for. You have to wonder what Zell's financial deal is.
