Why I love Ann Richards
No, it is not because she just endorsed my candidate either. I have loved her since I was twelve and she was elected Gov. She went on Letterman and said that Bu$h Sr. was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. I thought that she was smart, funny, and above all honest. She has always been my political idol and she is definitely one of the most inspiring women that I have ever heard of.

Compound that with the fact that she just outed the Bu$h adminstration on EVERY f'n thing we talk about here at DU, and she endorsed my candidate, I want to write the woman a long thank you letter.

Everyone in America should be forced to watch this episode of Larry King, the woman knows. Plus, she made the very true statement that any of our candidates can win. She is so right, for those that say Dean is our only hope, or Clark is our only hope, or Kerry, or whoever, the truth is that ANY of our boys can and will win. The cat is out of the bag and even the media can't cover it up anymore, fear not fellow democrats

WE ARE GOING TO WIN!!!

Thank fucking god! And God bless Ann Richards if only all politicans were like her the world would be a beautiful place.

1. She was great wasn't she?
I used to spend winters in Texas when she was Governor. I never knew a Texan who didn't like her, even the good ole boys with cowshit on their boots. I think she had her election stolen by BushCo. too. They seem to have it down slick don't they? Look what they did in California. She openly stated that she thought the Bush White House had something to do with the recall. Someone has to get to the bottom of what happened in these elections.

11. * Administration had its lackeys assisting with the recall.

Below is an excerpt from Salon about a religious wingnut with too much money named Howard Ahmanson, Jr. who finances Christian Reconstructionism, with a goal to return this country to biblical law, supplanting the Constitution.

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2004/01/06/ahmanson/index.html

(Get the one-day pass if you can't get the entire article. This excerpt is on page 2 or 3.)

"In 2003, the two Ahmanson cadres became instrumental figures in propelling the campaign to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis. In March 2003, Haynes personally convinced a fellow arch-conservative, U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, to bankroll the recall ballot qualification. After the recall qualified with the help of $1.7 million from Issa, McClintock entered the recall campaign, ultimately finishing third as the token cultural conservative."

15. We are pretty familiar with the Ahmanson's here in CA.
They used to have a Savings and Loan Empire. I didn't keep up with what happened to them because I don't have any money, but now I wonder if they were involved int the Savings and Loan scandals of previous Republican administrations?

30. I remember the silver foot quote well
was watching her on TV when she said it, and it got huge laughs from the conventioneers. Every time I see or hear about Ann, I think of that quote and smile.

She sure knows how to "slap the donkey". Nothing like sharing the facts. What a lucky charm she will be for Dean and the Democratic Party.

6. She did have her election stolen.
I'll never understand my fellow Texans. She did everything she promised to do and balanced the budget and they elected that asshole. He managed to run Texas into debt before he left to be President. When he promised he would do for the U.S. the same thing he did for Texas, he wasn't kidding!

BTW, the line Richards used about Bush Sr. was "Poor George - he was born with a silver FOOT in his mouth!" and she said it in a speech at the Democratic convention.

9. As I said it has been a long time, I was twelve.
She is such a good democrat. I wouldn't doubt that her election was stolen.

The most important thing I think she said is that Democrats will unite behind the candidate, she is right. We might bicker, and bitch, and ignore eachother when we disagree but come November we will be a unified front and there is nothing the media whores can do about it! We are going to win.

12. Some confusion here.
I admire Ann Richards, also, but...

Her campaign staff thought Bush would foul up in his run for Governor, they didn't take him seriously and he won. Where would we all be today if he hadn't?

She didn't do much to strengthen the state party while she was Governor.

Her quote about "Poor George, he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth" was made during her speech at the Democratic Convention in 1988, I believe.

17. I'm a huge fan of Ann Richards
In my opinion, she made a crucial misstep when there was a Senate seat open during her governorship and she appointed Krueger instead of Maddox to the seat. Krueger is a very good man, but he lost the election when it came around. Maddox would have probably won the election. It split her base and weakened her support.

She was a wonderful governor and is a wonderful person. She did more for this state than any governor did a long time prior and certainly since.

She will be a great asset to Dean.

27. She opposed the right to carry a concealed weapon.....
As did heads of most of the law enforcement bodies in the state. Bush made his support of the right a big part of his campaign.

It had a lot to do with her defeat. No gun rights were going to be taken away, but happiness is a warm gun...

13. She is happily retired. They asked if she would want a place in Dean's
adminstration and she said that she would have to consider it but she really can't fathom actually saying yes. She is glad to travel and spend time with her children.

Shame though, I am definitely glad to have her stumping for us. She even said "give'em hell Howard." It was nice.

18. She is anything but retired, but she is happy
Unless she has retired recently, she works almost full time for the pharmaceutical company that developed Evista for postmenopausal osteoporosis. This is tied into her book about the subject. She also lobbies.

26. Huh...I'd LOVE to hear Liberal radio no matter who is on...
And I'm not talking about streaming Internet which reaches a small portion of Americans. I'm talking about REAL Liberal radio that you can actually hear on your car radio, home radio.

It was talked up like crazy after the 2000 debacle and four years later we have little or nothing to show. Meanwhile ten new screaming Reich wing hate radio personalities show up on a weekly basis. Does Glen Beck ring a bell??

29. I adore that lady.
She ripped Bush Sr a new one in 1988. So I'm sure Barbara "the hag" Bush hates her.

Anyone that Barbara Bush hates is #1 in my book. (I'm sure the dry up old sack of cow shit hates me too)

When asked after the '88 dem convention what she thought of Richards for her excellent quote, the hag replied, "well, I can't say the word, but it rhymes with rich." She should know that word well given she is one.

BTW, I LOVE Ann!!
