Totally kickin' sermon, dude!: Here come the Christian surfers
Stranger than truth...

http://starbulletin.com/2003/07/28/news/index6.html

As the white-tipped wave melts into the ocean and the rush of adrenaline gives way to feelings of rebirth, some well-tanned surfers are making a startling discovery: They are finding God.

Around the world, a subculture perhaps better known for sculpted bodies and slacker mind-sets is finding spirituality. Some surfers say a flawless ride puts them in touch with a higher power. Others are taking those feelings and using the ocean as a pulpit from which to preach their faith.

And, dude, they think it's awesome.

Okay, now let's see them try to carve the Ten Commandments into the Pipeline... :-)

But seriously, folks, where are the progressive surfers? The progressive books, movies, TV and radio networks? The progressive schools (below college level, anyway)? Why must we be essentially shut out of society?

So like, there was this dude, Jesus, right? And he was like totally cool. He and his posse had this meal, called, like the Last Supper, where they had some gnarly yogurt tacos and wheat germ shakes - cuz Jesus was all about your body being a temple and all that, right? So okay, once, Jesus was, like, walking around, and a bunch of guys were chasing this one chick, like, throwing rocks at her and stuff, because she had, like, played around on her old man. That really harshed Jesus' buzz, and he said to them, "Dudes, you're harshing my buzz. Like, play nice cuz I bet there are a lot of things you all have done that are like totally wiggity-wiggity-wack with the Lord too."

3. there is actually quite a large movement
of born-again surfers (and skaters) in socal... one of my relatives is involved...

I CAN'T STAND THEM!!!!

it's very cult-like, if you ask me-- mostly angry young guys who have avoided life by goofing around until they are in their late twenties and then they have to face the world
