I turned on the SOTU for one minute and I had to see that horrible bit and a point on abstinence in sex education of all things. :puke:

But -- I couldn't stomach the speech. What did he say about AMERICAN CITIZENS who happen to be gay and how he plans to curtail our CIVIL RIGHTS?!

It was a purely political ploy to energize his RW fundie base. This and abortion are the only things they care about. Stupid gits couldn't care less if the country went down the drain so long as they can control your life by their twisted morals.

He said "If activist judges (referring to the Massachusetts Supreme Court) deter the will of the American people, then it is necessary to protect marriage by consititutional means". There was no may about it, IMO.

And Cneney has has also said he'll endorse FMA, which by doing so, is essentially slapping his own daughter, who's a lesbian, in the face,

That moment in the SOTU was one of the most shameful, disgusting things I've ever seen.

I wanted to laugh that ugly, hysterical and maniacal laugh for one particular lie he told. Christ, I'm so drunk I can't even remember which lie--the entire thing was one big lie. The shrub sure knows how to put the sugar coating on shit. Eat up, America. Yum.

But I'm quite sure Bush sucked!

I loved the reactions of the various troops, rolling their eyes, pretending to clap etc. obviously they did not appreciate being used by that smug, arrogant, smirking little bastard.

Bush talks like he's still a child. He kept his sing-song tone throughout the speech. I kept wanting to say, "Come on, you're a grownup."

One that stuck to me was when he was listing off the long long list of countries that support us. He started slow, then got fast all of a sudden like he remembered he was supposed to. Then ran out of breath and got the standing applause before he could name off the last four, "and 17 others.

I bet the speechwriters were pissed right there ;P

My favorite moment was the cheering for the end of the patriot act!!

Yes, he backpedalled throughout most of the speech. He doesn't have much in the way of positive accomplishments.

Terror, Saddam, economy improving yadda freakin yadda. Lot of exaggeration of how good things are and how much better off we are. Little of it substantive in my opinion. I thought the Wal-Marting of the mideast was a different slant.

Mostly, I wasn't impressed. Just a lot grand standing and very little to be positive about.

That was the most vacuous speech ever uttered in a time of national emergency.

Tonight made me realize the smirk is because he thinks he's being clever in the duplicitous nature of the lies he is telling us.

It looked like the guests were unsupportive of Bush. The military people looked really disappointed or angered.

Also noticed they ironically showed Colin Powell the disgraced UN liar when bush said "No longer can anyone challenge the word of the United States".

The child was disinterested when they showed him during the education part.

I noticed they became Evidence of Weapons of Mass Destruction Program Activity!!

I'd say this thing was a disaster because his record is there to see and its easier to understand and parse out the duplicity, now.

Thought the response was good when they got to the meat of the stuff, after the intros and formal backpatting.

This had to be the most boring SOTU speech I have ever seen. There was no substance whatsoever. Killers, Terrorist to Justice, Thugs, Assassins, No permission slips to defend our country. Clap clap.
Simple sentences for his simple subjects. Ted was the best with his head wringing and paying attention to his important papers.
I honestly could not watch it all and Pelosi and Daschle were no better.
This poor performance made Deans rousing speech look much better in retrospect. :9
