..Bush's speech at first.
This is some REALLY softcore criticism. Is Pelosi really the right person to respond to Bush's hardcore lies and deceptions?

She should've just said "We love you President Bush, and we agree with you, but I have a few minor disagreements on specific issues".

31. Too bad we don't have any gutsy Democrats except
Howard Dean. Oh but when Howard gets fired up, tells it like it is, even his own call him scary. Hey, Democrats, this is why you have a bunch of declawed pussies for leaders because when you have a real leader stand up to the Bushies you trash him to the ground. All you have to to is look at GD 2004 since it was started for proof.

75. Nancy and Tom looked like a bad SNL skit
They both sat there with permanent grins on their faces, as if they either agree with Bush, or are on heavy meds. I was totally repulsed. Obviously their expressions did not fit what they were actually saying...but it was hard to tell, and after Bush's long sleep provoking speech, the general public probably wasn't paying close attention.
I didn't expect anything from Bush, and he didn't disappoint...but those two were embarassing.

70. Good lord... such tough critics here!
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 10:57 PM by teknomanzer
Okay I admit Pelosi's delivery needed much work, but the content of the message was dead on. If she had said bluntly, "Bush is a Damn liar and sent our young men and women to die for oil, and profits," that would be considered tactless (though true) and would no doubt turn people off before the point of the message was laid out. Which is that Shrub's foreign policy is wrong for America. (an understatement to be sure.)

Daschle I think did well. He appeared to me to be compassionate and sincere. He emphasized why democrats are alway better on important domestic issues; namely education, jobs, health care, and retirement.

I know many of you, like myself, are so tired of Bush getting away with lie after lie, theft, and death spread worldwide, that you wish she offered up rebuke in the style of Ezekiel or better. But that isn't the way American politics works. We all know that. The response was simply laying out the themes for the upcoming presidential election. I believe Pelosi and Daschle have saved the fiery rebukes for the Democratic presidential candidate, where I believe they justly belong.

those 2 made more sense and he could understand where they were coming from compared to Shrubs twisted words.

I think that means something. I was surprised he wasn't channel surfing during the rebuttal, he was during Chimpy. I think it's a good sign.

71. That was a horrible response
This is the best the Democrats can do? The Republicans must be turning handsprings. Pelosi is our House leader, we can't afford to have someone speaking with stage fright. Trembling, mispronouncing words, all bug-eyed-Botox expressionless...Jesus H. Christ. :grr:

What has happened to the Democratic Party?

Second-worst I've ever seen, last year's suckfest with Gephardt having been the worst.

The idiots are handing * the election!

This "bipartisanship" means the end of our party. Or do they realize that? x(

78. Maybe it will be the end of the DLC. Lets hope we
traditional, liberal Democrats can carry on.

76. Call me Paranoid

But I see the Hidden Hand at work here. No way these two could have been so lame, even lamer than Bush, without actually trying to be that way. The Corporate Paymasters decreed that it should be so, and our "leadership" complied. The Masters of War are behind this.

81. it's embarrassing...
Bush's lies were so appararent...and the responses, as usual, sounded apologetic, unemotional, and totaly wimpish. Bush dared to say that the Kaye report had uncovered WMD's. He dared to say that the US had liberated Iraq...and he dared to present Afghanistan as an example of a succesful democratization. The response should have been given by either Byrd or Ted Kennedy. Daschle is a dishrag and Pelosi was a total loss. Don't wonder why the GOP will hold on. Ugly. Just ugly.
