My favorite SOTU moment...
Just a few minutes in, when B*sh started with his "you-weren't-using-these-civil-liberties-anyway" section of the speech:

"The PATRIOT Act is set to expire this year,..."

and before he could continue the thought (excuse me, "thought"), a good number of real patriots started applauding the expiration of the PA!

This was my favorite moment for two reasons: First, the Big Brass Ones on those Democrats who applauded. Second, the flicker of confusion on B*sh's face--"hey, that's not the applause line, what gives, and why is it coming from that side of the room, and, HEY! THEY'RE DISSIN' THE PATRIOT ACT!"

Closest the SOTU has ever come, I think, to being heckled.

2. I liked that too. Dis you see the look on his face? It was as if
he was thinking why are they applauding, I haven't gotten to the punch line yet?

Then he looked down his kingly nose at that area of the room. I bet they won't be invited to dinner at the WH any too soon.

Then he sneered at them when he demanded that they renew the draconian act. I've never seen anything like it in aa SOTU before. He has managed to divide this country BITTERLY!!!!! hsssssss!!!!!!

6. That would make a good snippet of video to add to one of the Dem
presidential candidate's commercials!

11. The only fair fight is the one you win. 'Cause winners write the
history books....or heavily edit them.

8. Right on
that would make for a good Dem commercial - however I thought his look was a little more sinister - like you all just wait.... for my payback.

9. Yes, I must admit
that was my favorite moment too.

Another good one was when the camera went to Hillary for the first time. She was standing, clapping half heartedly, but with a look on her face that I took to mean, "Yeah, Right, bozo!"

I feel so much better this morning after spending the evening yelling at the TV screen and laughing at the alternate universe portrayed by * , the Younger. Again it was the attitude of "I say it - it is so." Amazing!
:eyes:

12. I saw that too,
I hope the democratic keep this up and don't cave to Bush on his budget. The time to stop Bush is now, not next november.

13. my favorite was Ted Kennedy's expression and
shaking his head no and tightening his mouth. He was pissed and it was obvious he thought * was a liar. Liked the Dem response, but I really liked the Kerry interview after that on abc. Peter Jennings was really respectful of Kerry and didn't want to interupt him. Wonder if he suspects *'s time is limited.

14. get this! it's in the official transcript!!
Key provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire next year. (Applause.) The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule. (Applause.) Our law enforcement needs this vital legislation to protect our citizens. You need to renew the Patriot Act. (Applause.)

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/01/print/20040120-7.html

and yes, EVERY bit of (Applause.) is 'on the record' - how bizarre is that?
