Republicans Hate Democracy!

Just fired off this letter to the editor and e-mailed it to the Hartford Courant. I'll let you know if they run it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1996: The American people re-elect Democrat Bill Clinton as President of the United States. The Republicans impeach him.

2000: Forty-eight per cent of those who vote in the presidential election give Democrat Al Gore a 500,000-vote margin of victory over Republican George W. Bush. The GOP takes Gore to court.

2002: The voters of California elect Democrat Gray Davis as governor with a victory of more than 300,000 votes. The Republicans initiate a recall campaign against Davis.

How in the world does the GOP justify such blatantly anti-democratic behavior? I can only assume that, mouthed pieties aside, the Republicans secretly hate democracy and will do everything in their power to prevent it from flourishing, both in the United States and abroad.

That also explains why they don't call themselves Democrats.

2. Their rationale: It's a Republic....not a Democracy.
We wouldn't want the poor and middle class majority of America making decisions for our money wouldn't we.

4. Just remind them,
whenever they say this, that China calls itself a republic too.

Might make 'em think.
