1. Everywhere you look, you see Corporate America coming first
Byrd is yelling "Shame! Shame on us!"

"What has happened to the legislative process here?"

"Under pressure from the White House, provisions that were included by both houses were DROPPED!!"

He is not happy.

"Cuts that were NEVER debated in the legislature will affect programs across the board!"
"We can afford x billion to fund corporations under the Medicare bill. We can afford billions for.... (?) corporations, but NOTHING for the average citizen. The President wants programs for citizens CUT! But, he didn't mention that in his speech last night, did he?!"

"How many fewer flights will have air marshall aboard?" "Did he mention that in his speech?" " NO!"

3. Byrd Should Have Given Democrats' Response
he's just great ...

Byrd said that bush keeps telling us how he's made the nation safer from terrorism ... but bush's appointee to head the Homeland Security Department, Tom Ridge, said that he had increased the terror alert to "Orange" because the nation was at greater risk for terrorist attack than at any time since 9/11 ...

4. Wouldn't he have been great??
That's when we'll know the democrats have grown some balls-when they start letting the great Senator Byrd speak for them/us.

10. Why, indeed, can't we have Byrd, or Kennedy, or someone who SPEAKS?
How 'bout Barbara Boxer?!

I don't know much about politics, but this doesn't make sense.

Out with the milquetoasts, in with the SPEAKERS!

5. "Shame on us!"
"Shame on us for letting it happen."

"Shame on us for putting political party before the good of the country."

"Shame on us for putting political party above the constitution."

"In my 50 years in this body, I've never seen such a milquetoast congress."

"How many of us can say we've stood by that constitution?"

We've become far too deferential to ALL presidents?

"All presidents are just hired hands."

"Presidents are just here for a short time. I've seen many come and go. And I hope I get to see another one go.."

6. "We treat it as a piece of paper"
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 08:53 PM by Kanary
"Why do we treat Presidents as royalty, as if they were clothed in purple?"

"The real losers in this scenario are the American people."

"SHAME ON US!"

"Under our constitution our founding fathers had the wisdom to establish three branches of government. This consitituion has something to do with every minute, every hour, every day of this nation. This constitution impacts your life, your life, your life. When I put my party above this consitution, send me HOME!"

"Every day in some way this constitution bears upon your LIFE!"

"In this country, we do not say 'God Save the King'. We do not say 'God Save the President'. NO! We say 'God Save The Constitution!"
