Former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Joseph Wilson predicts the situation in Iraq will deteriorate so much over the next year Bush may resort to start another war in order to win the 2004 election. Wilson is the retired diplomat who visited Niger in a CIA-sponsored trip last year during which he determined the alleged Iraq-Niger uranium deal was bogus. His conclusion was ignored by the Bush White House.

4. Syria
In the last few weeks, during the phoney intelligence flap, I recall a news item that quoted a CIA source that said the crime family was also ready to push hyped up information about Syria too, suggesting that Syria was next on the hit list. There was someone from the administration (Hadley??) that was supposed to testify to Congress around this, using phoney info that CIA warned them against, and the white house back peddled and canceled the date for his testimony.

Anyone remember this?

Anyway - I look a hyped up case to be made leadin up to the election to go to war in Syria.

6. Governor Ann Richards
said that back during Bush's first year in office. It was on Larry King and I remember it very clearly although all the links have been gone for awhile so I will paraphrase. She said the people running his administration were very clever people. She said all anyone is ever going to hear from them is war, war and more war, because they have nothing else to keep them in power.

9. a question arises
was the (unconstitutional) congressional authority to make the iraq war that passed last fall authorize any and all such actions or was it specific to iraq?

i don't think at this point congress would fall for the same thing again and the cabal would have to resort to a (another?) pearl harbor type event.

I'd missed whatever morning show he was on, but caught him on the Daily Show.

What an engaging, articulate, intelligent guy! I'd want to snatch him right up if he weren't already married (if I lived in Washington, and if I met him, etc. etc.).

11. Wilson has every right to be furious,
but I think this warning comes as much from a public-spirited desire to ward off something he can see coming if it is not headed off at the pass. As far as I can see, one way to head off such a war-to-win-an-election strategy is to proclaim it loudly. (I think loudly expressed skepticism was at least part of why BushCo* backpedaled on Syria and Iran, at least for a while). The more people who are out there saying that * WILL wag the dog, the harder it will be for them to actually do it. Barring, of course, a Gulf of Tonkin kind of lie or a Manchurian Incident kind of manufactured, "they-started-it" event.
