Reported this morning on NPR: Military internet voting close to reality
Anyone else hear this?

Since the military is assumed to be Imperial-leaning anyway, fraud will be much harder to root out.

Further, given the Imperial soliticitation of military ballots after the "election" of 2000 and their other manual ballot stuffing and disenfranchisement strategies, it seems logical that these "ballots" would be ripe for manipulation and a perfect way of backfilling however many votes are required for Imperial Victory.

Calling Bev Harris, GodBushnCheney, and others...what's the scoop on this?

1. How to trump the Pentagon
Those soldiers who plan to vote against Bush should write their intentions to their loved ones, who can then log it on a website. At least we can keep track of the hardcore Dem supporters in the military so that we can have something to refute the Pentagon BBV numbers.

2. Not sure that's the right thing to do
Gievn the current climate of Imperial Amerika, is it wise to be advertising voting opposition to the Emperor, particularly when surrounded by Bushevik Loyalists?

Even if Amerika was still a Free nation (and thus pelled with a 'c', I'm not sure advertsiign who voted for whom is a smart thing to do.

5. That's why they filter their identity by going through their family.
There are various ways to log an anonymous vote -- not to mention that the vote will be logged on a private webpage. As long as you trust the ISP, there shouldn't be a privacy issue.

All we're doing is keeping an informal headcount. But it's better than nothing.

3. Against it
I am against internet voting for anyone. If you think fraud is ripe with current touch screen voting systems, imagine the amount of fraud that could occur with internet voting!

4. Devastating Review of SERVE
http://www.servesecurityreport.org/

If you're in a state using SERVE, lobby your state legislature to drop it, NOW. (list of states in report)

Write the local papers and weeklys about SERVE.

We don't provide enough body armor,
We have to send boots to the troops,
We cut veterans benefits when they get out,
But we spend millions on a program that cannot secure the vote of our
service men and women.

SERVE was a government procurement contractor boondoggle from the beginning. They are using Microsoft platforms and PC's to vote on!

6. Everyone read the SERVE information
Then tell me why they are voting via Internet in Michigan?

9. And Arthur Andersen will count the votes
Edited on Fri Jan-23-04 12:26 AM by bonemachine
Arthur Andersen Co. is to count Internet military votes. According to Landes, the Internet voting business is dominated by two corporations. One is Accenture (whose corporate offices are located in Bermuda) and the other is VoteHere (Seattle). “The U.S. Department of Defense recently awarded a coalition of corporations, led by Accenture, the contract to provide Internet service that will count the votes of the U.S. military and some civilians in the 2004 presidential election.” Nearly 6 million voters may be affected. “Accenture was formerly known as Andersen Consulting, a subsidiary of Arthur Andersen.” Yes, the same company convicted of destroying evidence in the Enron crime. One of Accenture’s most important business partners is Halliburton.

12. SecurePoll.com
...is basically two guys. Both graduates of the Bush school of business. They get quoted a lot on Internet voting.

One went to work for VoteHere...

One went to work for Arthur Anderson Consulting (became Accenture)

7. I heard it too
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 11:54 PM by ariellyn
They said something like officials (manufacturers) say the systems are safe and encrypted but researchers say the internet is too insecure to conduct this type of voting. They added some hyperbole about votes being lost from the military in the 2000 election insinuating that internet voting will prevent it.

8. It was all....
(Not actual quotes)

"Internet security experts warn that the system is vulnerable to attacks, and could easily be breached by anyone interested in altering election results. Even one hacker with malicious intent could completely throw the system into chaos. A Pentagon spokesperson said "Nah, it's all good, we're gonna just go 'head with it, m'kay? Thanks!! :hi:"

13. This is Another Item to Act on Folks
Call your Federal Congress people and tell them to stop SERVE NOW.

If you live in a state that signed on to SERVE, write every official in the state and tell them to drop SERVE.

They can do it, just look to the review for a good, solid, reason.

Product not delivered. It would be treason to subject votes to this system.

Knowing, willfull, treason.

14. "Scientists: Internet voting is workable"
That was the AP headline in a few newspapers this morning.

It's like swimming through a sewage effluent pond.

16. Who do they quote?
It's usually the same stable of stand buys.

I don't think some of them are even qualified, i.e., they are not security specialists.
