Poll question: Would you trade George the Lesser for his dad in office?
On another board someone commented "At this point, I'd rather have anyone besides Bush in office, even his father."

And I have to agree. They may not be too different policy-wise, but at least Bush I isn't quite so embarassing. There's a difference between a bad leader you hate and such a simple-minded fool that's the laughingstock of the whole world it makes you embarassed to be from here.

1. I would trade Emperor Smirkenstein* for Nixon
I would NOT trade him for Ferd Marcos, Hitler, Stalin, nor Saddam Hussein.

So he's got THAT going for him.

2. Actually, I think there is a big policy difference
Bush the Elder was no Reaganesque style tax-cutter. I tend to think of him as a relatively moderate Republican, although the situation was helped by the fact that Bush 1 had to work with a Democratic congress.

6. He wrote my dad a thank you letter
After my dad wrote him to commend his stance against the NRA (I don't recall why he was standing up to the NRA...assault weapons ban, maybe?). It's just a short little note on Presidential stationary, but I think it meant a lot to dad. But I'll be goddamned if that note would ever translate to my dad voting Republican.

4. you mean the real president bush?
Yes I would. When the fiscal situation deteriorated he did the right thing and asked the wealthy to pay more in taxes, though his "read my lips" promise was an act of total stupidity.

when the defecits continued to mount even though it cost him dearly in the next election.

7. George the First was an abomination. George II is deadly.
George Herbert Walker Bush was a terrible president, completely out of it, without a clue or caring bone in his patrician body. George W. Bush is a clear and present danger to this nation and the world. I despised the first; I fear what is coming with the second. I would take the first in a heartbeat over the second.

15. Both Bonesman
They were both Bonesman. As were their ideological predecessor William Howard Taft. Taft was the president so odious that it compelled Teddy Roosevelt to bolt his party (Republicans) and challenge him. They've been the party of big business ever since.

12. Kind of like asking which 'Whitehouse", which were both outhouses
during 41 and 43's presence, smells better.

A difference that makes no difference is no difference.

13. There is also the diff between a man who has accomplished stuff.
Bush the Elder flew combat in WWII, ran oil companies, was elected to Congress, directed the CIA, and was VP. He did all that without having a famous daddy (not that his daddy was a nobody, but his daddy sure wasn't President).

Pappy was definitely running the show when he was President, unlike the silver-coke-spooned, alcohol-addled arrogant moron that occupies the place now.

16. No no

His daddy was a VERY, VERY wealthy Banker, Bonesman, Senator and Nazi Financier/Sympathizer. Anyone who gets in Skull and Bones is "hooked up" to begin with.

Oh and by the way, Prescott Bush allegedly looted the grave of Geronimo and brought his skull back to "The Tomb" to honor their pagan altar goddess.

14. Bush Sr was better

Bush Sr was better at hiding is contempt for ordinary people. The apple doesn't fall to far from the tree. Nor did it fall too far from the Nazi Grand-tree.

Bush Jr. is simply a little farther along on the Reich Wing's master plan of global feudal corporate fascism.

18. He didnt mastermind this though
this isnt his worldview taking over, just his desire for continued power for his family. The neocons were no big fans of Bush senior, but the bush clan was willing to form the coalition of the damned to get one of thier own in the top spot again.

20. Good Grief!
Just last night I watched a documentary again called "The Panama Deception" . BushI was prez when we bombed entire neighborhoods of civilians and used experimental laser weapons on civilians. I also saw Cheney and Powell all over the news clips for that war. Maybe no.1 was smarter but he was still just as bloody. :puke:
