Micheal Moore retracts Mumia's guilty statement
On Democracy Now, the other day Michael Moore "clarified" the content of his latest book that seemed to suggest his opinion was Mumia is guilty of shooting Officer Faulkner in Philadelphia PA, Dec 9 1981.

Now, not having read his book (as a result of the publicity surrounding this statement) I cant verify his explanation, which, at best, is late in coming forth, but- He says that it was an example of how you might approach a right wing brother-in-law or some such in discussing subjects like Mumia or abortion. I will resist commenting until I have read the passages myself. What he did do is describe this as an attempt at humor, and that REALLY isnt funny Michael. I am just glad that I didnt have to purchase rights to a silly domain name like michaelmoorekilledofficerfaulkner.com, because, frankly, I have better things to do. Now, that whole Clark for President thing? I still think he has lost his way, so the taint of suspicion remains.

1. Moore acts like a politician more and more
clarifying statements...trying to appeal to a wider base...etc.

3. I hate to think he was bullshitting
but it was a fairly convoluted explanation, and simply unfunny. I will do the bookstore thing later today.

4. Interesting way to put it...........
If he thinks Mumia is guilty, or feels a certain way about any 'controversial' subject and gets flack for it, he should just stick to his guns about it.

6. only if he has legitimate evidence
and that aint the case. Geronimo Pratt. Angela Davis. Leonard Peltier. Judi Barri. How many more names need be added to the wall of shame and lies that we have to live with under the lie of Democracy and Justus? Mumia is a beautiful mind, man and soul who must be protected and FREED!!!!

2. I heard the interview you mentioned and i think Moore realizes he was...
out of line. Amy Goodman (Host of the radio show) pretty much got him to admit he shouldnt have made the statement and he did say he would revise the passage for the release of the paperback.

Give him credit. He admits when he screws up

5. I can only credit him if his explanation was legit
backpedalling on such a serious question of justice would not suffice.

12. read the transcript to get the context of his clarification.
his basic point is mumia may indeed be guilty, but his trial was a sham, and he deserves another one.

13. not exactly
that would be the original take on it. His explanation was substantially different from what you just said, although that may more closely reflect your views, it does not reflect the point he was apparently FORCED to clarify.

16. so you didnt hear the "it was humor" and the rationale behind it?
Which were certainly the points I was trying to make, and gathered from the interview. The notion that "he may be guilty" was hardly the crux of the point. The problem he was addressing is exactly the notion that he believes "he may be guilty" or even more forcefully put, as was bandied around after the book came out. I think you are shortening the story for some reason.

15. Michael Moore? The Guy Who Wants to Draft Oprah?
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 08:35 PM by Tinoire
Surely people aren't taking this buffoon seriously. He's an entertainer with a pathological need of being liked. Pat Michael Moore on the head and the guy becomes besides himself. No compass whatsoever.

===

C'mon! Isn't it time we had a winner on our side?

America loves Oprah. She's got good politics, a great heart-and she'll have us all exercising AND reading! This can't be a bad thing.

Let's convince Oprah to run. Please sign the petition below.

Dear Ms. Winfrey,

We, the undersigned, call on you to declare yourself a candidate for the Presidency of the United States of America. We want to hear your ideas on how to straighten this country out and we think you can force the other candidates to stand by their hearts and consciences. At the very least, you can shake things up, but more likely, you can destroy the field and blow through the elections to become our first black President, our first woman President and our first President in recent memory who represents the interests of the American People.
