1. reps
I will write my 2 repub. senators. I don't believe the constitution gives our president the right to make into law who can be married and who can't. I don't care how much he brings religion into it, it would not be constitutional.

13. yeah, you're right
In fact, now I feel less silly for all the other emails and letters I've sent about issues we are opposites on.

(But, come to think of it, neither has gone on record regarding abortion rights, head start education, etc. At least not by replying to any letter I'VE sent!).

I'm sure Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, and John Olver (my rep) would welcome yet another letter from me!

5. here's the draft of my letter
I am writing out of concern for comments that President Bush made today regarding gay marriage. I strongly disagree with his call to codify the legal description of marriage as between a man and a woman only. As a gay man, I feel that this discriminates against me on the most basic levels.

I am asking you to oppose any attempt to define marriage as between a man and a woman, ignoring those gays and lesbians in permanent, loving and stable relationship who would wish to legalize their relationship through marriage and all of its legal benefits.

It's fairly basic and I don't try to argue the issue. I just voice my concerns and my position

9. write him anyway!
if we don't make our voices heard on this, the right wing will!

If this passes Congress, which I think it will, then we need 21 states to vote against it.

8. I will
Dayton is definately worth writing to, Gutknecht is a loss cause, Coleman might not be though since he wants to look moderate and MN is a pretty gay-friendly state, and because the state GOP has just gotten loads of shit for a homophobic bill and some crap an idiot state legislator said so bigotry won't be too helpful here for awhile.

14. you guys don't get it
Why do you think the administration is making such a big deal about the whole "gay marriage" thing?

Because they know that mainstream America is against it. And they can say "look what the liberals are up to NOW" and shit like that.

And it's gonna work unless we back off from it.

We have BIGGER FISH TO FRY THAN GAY MARRIAGES.

We have a commander in chief who has murdered thousands of people and is sending this country back to the dark ages and you want to argue about gay marriage?

You're playing EXACTLY into their hands.

Keep your eye on the ball. Which is Slaughtergate, and the 9/11 coverup.

I really don't appreciate your assertion that somehow gay rights are less important than other issues.

Yes, I'm sure BushCo. is using this to stir up anti-gay sentiment but I refuse to lay down over it to foster other parts of my political agenda.

And shame on you for suggesting we should.

15. Dwickham - Why do most gays want marriage so badly?

I am a white single heterosexual and am just curious.

Thanks

20. why do I want gay marriage
because my partner isn't eligible for my social security benefits or pension if I die before him

my family could swoop in and take everything that we have built together.

the state doesn't have to recognize any power of attorney that I give him over my property or health care decisions.

because it's a sign of my love for him.

I want marriage for all the same reasons that heterosexual couples do.

16. This issue is REPUBLICAN BAIT
Don't take it.

It's a clever tactic to take everybody's eyes of the slaughtergate ball.

Ignore them and they'll go away.

They're not going to amend the freakin' constitution. It's the same as that flag-burning amendment. Just designed to stir people up.

And apparently it's working

yeah, the amendment now has 75 co-sponsors in the house

this is a very real threat.

I'm not going to sit by the right wing takes away more rights from me just because I'm gay.
