Seattle Times Endorses Joe Lieberrman
Can you spell L-O-S-E-R? It's a lot shorter than either "Seattle Times" or "Joe Lieberman."

The Seattle Times is a double loser, because its endorsements are evolving into anchors as the public finally begings to notice the stench emanating from the Times.

This is the paper that endorsed George W. Bush in 2000. It also endorsed Governor Gary Locke (probably Washington's most corrupt governor ever), the most corrupt candidates who run for Seattle Mayor and on and on. The Times led the charge in conferring sainthood on Colin Powell's chum, the late (for anything but blackmail) retired general and Seattle Schools Superintendent John Stanford.

The Seattle Times' owner, Frank (or "Crank") Blethen, performed community service after he was accused of shooting a neighbor's dog. When his employees' went on strike, Blethen called in paramilitary forces.

He received some notoriety when he blasted a colleague with a particularly hostile and deranged e-mail. In short, the man's a kook - but a very powerful kook.

Seattle Times alumni now occupy seats on the Seattle City Council (gossip bitch Jean Godden), Seattle School Board (Tricky Dick Lilly) and Microsoft (John Hamer.)

Given the Seattle Times tawdry reputation, one has to wonder if its endorsement convinced Joe Lieberman to drop out of the presidential campaign. If so, we all owe the Seattle Times a big THANK YOU. Now go back to bed, Crank!

4. What really used to bug me
is that the supposedly intelligent (Microsoft, Boeing, etc.) people of Seattle continue to consider the Times to be the newspaper of record. Bugged me until I moved away, that is. I never wasted my money on it.

5. Intelligence is a weird thing.
I've met many people who are far smarter than me in terms of math, computers, medicine, etc. But when it comes to politics, these people simply fall off the edge of the earth.

Americans in general are stupid, but I think Seattlites are at rock bottom. It's hard to imagine anything dumber than a Seattle liberal. Until you ponder some of those right-wing religious kooks.

8. Who was that far-far right wing woman from a few years back?
Can't remember her name, but she had the backing of a lot of Seattle society. She was the one who truly believed the End Times are here, etc. I remember reading somewhere how much money she had raised, and it astounded me.

10. Ellen Craswell?
She's one of the Eastern Washington religious kooks I referred to. She ran for Governor and was probably supported by most of Seattle's conservatives.

Cancelled my subscription during the strike and never renewed. Their endorsements usually disgust me.

7. Did you ever see a copy of the strikers' paper?
They printed up a paper during the strike. Can't remember what it was called, but it was really pretty cool to pick up a newspaper that was flagrantly pro-labor. It was like going back in time eight decades.

13. Blethen family fortune
Ever since they figured that bush would eliminate the "death tax", the paper has been disgusting. They still publish Doonesbury, maybe they think people will figure they're still "liberal" even as they endorse bush and Lieberman.

The PI (Hearst owned!) has actually been pretty good, particularly on the editorial side.

As an aside, the two papers have a joint operating agreement, with the Times having all the muscle, and they're trying to shut the PI down.
