5. The look on that guy at the end says it all, doesn't it?
He's thinking "this guy is certifiably LOONEY!"

I do also have to say that the tone of Rumsfeld is clearly someone on the defensive. He is answering to his detractors. The guy is going down. Will a defeated Rumsfeld be more dangerous than a Rumsfeld in power? He certainly could be to himself and those around him. But the rest of the world will be a safer place. There will be still be terrorism and terrorists who would do harm to others. But Rumsfeld the terrorist will soon have his wings clipped. And that time cannot come a moment too soon.

11. thanks....imagine trying to translate rummy-speak....for an international
forum...this crap is truly shameful....some very poor english too...must get that from hanging around with the shrub....

the word 'ain't'....from MSN Encarta....
http://encarta.msn.com/encnet/features/dictionary/DictionaryResults.aspx?search=ain%27t

ain’t

contraction

am not: a contraction of “am not,” “is not,” “are not,” “have not,” or “has not” ( nonstandard )

Word Usage

Ain’t is one of the most informal verb contractions in English, and it is widely disliked because it is associated with uneducated speech of a kind that many people disfavor. It is slightly more acceptable as a contraction of am not, and in the form ain’t I? is more common as a question in informal English (Ain’t I right?). Otherwise ain’t is best avoided, except in allusive phrases such as You ain’t seen nothing yet.

2. "Any monkey on Mars
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 06:37 PM by gristy
could see that the countries of NATO and North America are freedom loving people who do NOT invade and occupy other countries" - paraphrase of D. Rumsfeld. The "Any monkey on Mars" is a direct quote.

The NYT article does not use this quote, and I searched for it on news.google and could not find it. But every hour for at least 3 hours today NPR played it. It was actually funny.

on edit: grammar and spelling

people in that room 'opined there wasn't a whole lotta difference who won' huh?

'shocking
absolutely shocking'

did he say 'elegant intelligence'?

'when we're dealing with closed societies ...
where we don't know what we need to know, and
they know precisely what it is what they want to hide from us ... and they're good at it'

NATO didn't look like they were buying it.
Rumsfield looked like he was constipated.

9. that was the term,
when we're dealing with closed societies, and we don't know what we need to know, and they know what it is they want to hide from us....and they're good at it", Sounds like a page out of the administrations handbook. Look how open they are, gaud, look how they can hide things, delay things, and do whatever the fuk they think serves their purpose. They are good at it, too bad it's gonna fall apart.

13. Were these European critics having Rumsfeld translated??
Or do they understand English and will not lose anything in the translation?

###
In this climate, many officials here expected a tempered, if not conciliatory speech on Saturday from Mr. Rumsfeld, who is still regarded by many Germans and French, in particular, as a villain for his dismissive remarks about "old Europe." Instead, Mr. Rumsfeld, feisty and unyielding, appeared eager to put a potential adversary on the defensive as he laid out the administration's rationale for the war in the absence of any illegal Iraqi weapons.
###

I guess Rummy smoothed over their feathers with his elegant intelligence!

###
Some European participants said they were stunned by what they called Mr. Rumsfeld's arrogance, especially in light of the apparent intelligence failures in Iraq. "His view is, `We're right, they're wrong, and we'll continue to be right,' " said Christoph Bertram, director of the German Institute for International Politics and Security in Berlin. "It was a performance of `We know better.'
###

Those Europeans must have the elegant intelligence that Rummy is lacking!!

19. Quite the revealation...
They played a lengthy excerpt of his speech on (Ithink it was) CBS news tonight...All I could think of was Nosferatu, only with less charisma, defending his bloodsucking as "moral and righteous". Even had the hand movements down pat...Gave me an even worse case of the creeps than I already have...
