Has the board been following the events in Des Moines, IA?
There, the Justice Department is going after those, including the National Lawyer's Guild, who sponsored a peace conference at a private university (Drake U.):

This includes gag orders on university staff about this inquisition:

I don't have a link, but I know that there is a rally tomorrow in Des Moines, to counter this attempt to silence critics of U.S. foreign policy. Time to stop the Homeland Gestapo and Ashcroft's Injustice Department.

I've been away from the Board, so I will have missed any discussion of this over the weekend. But it's still going on.

There is a demonstration in front of the U.S. Courthouse in Des Moines tomorrow afternoon.

Also, concerned citizens are asked to call Drake University, 1-800-44-DRAKE and urge the university to resist the subpoena of the University and the records of the meeting held on its campus and its students who are members of the National Lawyers' Guild.

...but this issue doesn't seem to generate much interest here. I believe this is HUGE!, and will be driving to Des Moines tonight to join those who oppose the bush*/republican plans to criminalize dissent.

7. Grand Jury appearance postponed.
There is a thread in Activism/Events with a link to Iowa TV that states that the federal Grand Jury has been postponed.

I may drive down anyway. The report seems credible, but the bogus posting of cancellations in the media is a common dirty trick used to suppress dissent. In fact, I believe that Rummy now has an agency that specializes in placing bogus items in the media. I'm looking for sources to verify.

14. In Colorado, a couple of years ago,
it was discovered that the police had "files" on various individuals and groups. They were forced to open those files to the people involved, and it became a big fiasco for the cops.

So, it takes a lot of work, and some media people to make it work, but it's possible to bust these things.

Good luck to all of you in Des Moines! This is just toooo fascist....
