So, why did we invade Iraq again?
According to Bush's latest justification (and correct me if I'm leaving something out), it was:

Weapons of mass destruction-related program activity INTENTIONS.

Or perhaps we should call it:

Weapons of mass destruction-related program activity POTENTIALS.

Is that it? Is that the justification du jour?

1. It was almost kind of going to be an imminent threat pretty soon.

2. Well, now, nobody actually SAID "imminent", did they?
They said "grave and gathering threat", which as you can see is very, very different.

So, then, maybe: "Weapons of mass destruction-related program activities of a potentially imminent threat level"? How's that?

5. And if none of that worked
(as I recall from the heated exchanges), then it was because we *care* about poor, oppressed towelheads.

6. It's very simple.
At some point, Saddam Hussein could have begun to think about doing things that might potentially lead to his starting a program of some sort. That program could possibly create a potentially hazardous substance that, if produced in large enough quantities, prove fatal.

He might then give this Doomsday Weapon to his dire enemies, Al Qaeda, and they could possibly potentially maybe use it on us.

So OF COURSE we had to get hundreds of our soldiers killed and hand the treasury to Haliburton. We could've all been killed.

7. Because Daddy lost his nerve and stopped short
the bastards stopped the gulf war because they wanted their old friend and known quantity Saddam to stay in power. they could also keep oil prices high by restricting Iraq access to markets.

Now Iraqi oil was beginning to come back on the markets so of course we had to go in and take control ourselves.

16. It's called "Pretzel Logic"
“I had made the case, and will continue to make the case, that Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is a threat to the security of the American people,” Bush said.

He suggested the risks of attack from Saddam outweigh the potential costs of war.

“This economy cannot afford to stand an attack,” he said, even as his budget team was predicting war with Iraq would cost at least $50 billion.

It marked the first time Bush has used potential damage to the U.S. economy as justification for military action.

-snip-

“You said we’re headed to war in Iraq. I don’t know why you say that,” Bush told reporters. “I’m the person who gets to decide, not you."
